what are the recomended spark plugs for the CD9A, 92 evo gsr? And what is the recomended gap? I've searched, but i find a mixture of info that is not direct, figured someone got a manual or good knowledge about this.

my spark plug gap guage is circular, it has mm, and inches. i set the plugs electrode in front of the .6mm mark, between .6mm and .65mm, i figure if i don't know, go a little bigger.

shit... sorry for uprooting this thread
i've been running BPR7ES plugs at .6 gap, where i added the 'R' in from the info you guys gave me i dunno, might of had a few joints before i went and got em LOL. Is this a problem, or is it ok? i've been running em since the last post on this thread, i just changed em out agian 2 days ago, got about 10,000 + kms on the old ones, and i ran em lean a few times over the km's(maxed out injectors), i noticed a boost flutter while climbing over the mountain range when they started to foul.

R types are compatible with stock ignition systems
they have resistors in them. It will keep noise levels down ie radio noise etc.

As for plug type, I would recommend you purchase some 6's ad 7's and try different gaps.

Due to your weather being colder I would assume, a hotter plug may be ok.
with the gaps, start up high (standard pre gap is .8mm i believe) so you could start at .9 if you wanted to , then give it a run... if your ignition starts to break down, move down to .8, .7 etc... until it runs nice and smoothly.

You dont want to start too small as it may cause pre ignition / pinging.

I'm also not sure if evo's and vr4's use the same plug, but I the ones listed above are vr4 specific.

Just went out and got Autolites Xtreme Performance Iriduim XP63 plugs, had them cross referenced with Denso 5307 - IW22 Iriduims. These have resistors as well, i will take your advice and play with the gaps.

Good stuff.

Make sure you torque them up correctly also.
Many make the mistake of going to soft on the plugs.
Also using some copper eze on the threads is good for the head (you wont kill the thread and it will help removal, it may even assist heat transfer).

Wind up the boost and see how you go!

As for plug types, you dont really need the irridiums in my opinion, go the standards and change them regularly

wow, i gapped these iridiums to .7 and what a world of difference. Idle is damn near perfect, no more rough idle...wooot.

I thought you weren't meant to gap Iridium plugs???

shouldnt have hurt much running the resistor type.

ngk recomend the 7 heat range plugs for the evo engine ran at .8 gap for standard, but you can reduce the gap for higher boost or they even do an 8 range plug also, but some find they miss a little when cold.
