Hey guys,

Due to running 18psi all day everyday in my RVR/Evo3 , im wanting to upgrade my standard evo3 valve springs.

Can anyone recommend the best value for money springs to get? Also where from? I need them asap or by early next week.

As im not planning on running any more boost I dont think theres any need to go top of the range, just something thats going to last for what im running.

Std RVR cams & my 264/272 cams rev to 8k+ with the std RVR springs.
Going harder springs would ware my cam lobes quicker.
Unless you are going to put 11mm+ lift cams in, I wouldn't bother.
Cheers !

Hmmm whoops, I just bought a set of 'performance' springs and retainers for $220.
I may as well put them in now....
Anyone else used 'performance' valve springs on their car?

^^ as Jack said

Rob EVO00X is using Performance springs in his car using BC 280/280 cams, now he's went to a Kelford 272/272 which has a higher lift

280s are a big cam. what old school guys would call a 3/4 race cam (maybe a full race) run the cam with the springs suggested by the cam builders. don't change to something else unless you have specific reasons too.
Bc280s suggest bc001 springs and retainers.
Anything else would need considerations regards coil bind, open and closed seat pressure.

David Vizard has a engine blueprinting book (ebay) buy this and study it.

I can get a set of 2nd hand tomei 260's for around $300. Might consider that.
Standard is 250 on the evo3's is that right?
Thanks for your input

You could try an old trick, get an adjustable cam gear for the exhaust only then retard it a couple of degree at a time. read this in HOT4s pg 61 issue technical handbook. they recon you will make a lot more power.

Looks like I'm just going to put in the 260's with the performance springs and new stem seals. See how that goes.

Allan at Performance Springs supplied my h/duty springs with chromoly retainers years ago when the lift I was using for the Crower 280's had Intake 10.44mm and Exhaust 9.93mm (more than hks 272's). He ended up doing the sums on the info provided to him and supplied spring D51888 with retainer RET 1050. I was giving the engine 8200rpm and 26psi boost on a GT30 turbo without valvetrain issues. When I purchased my Kelford tx272 cams with 11mm I/E lift last year, I double checked the specs with Allan to be sure that they would be OK and could handle it and not bind. He confirmed yes they are still good to use. He wont recommend using dual valvesprings if he thinks his single spring ovate wire material etc would be suitable for handling the cams too. Dual doesnt necessarily mean better as it places more stress on your valvetrain components and cams that probably doesnt need to be. So he may ask you some tech questions to help determine a solution. He was more concerned for my piston to valve clearance with the extra lift but thats a non issue with only a 0.6mm increase in my setup.

Im still learning about it all to be honest, but Allan was helpful when i spoke to him. We'll see how if theres much of an improvement with these 260 cams compared to standard first.

Are you going to want adjustable cams?
Are you going to set them with a degree wheel?
You can make it seem like you have bigger or smaller cams by adjusting them.
You can set them on a dyno.
But its just one more thing to worry about.

You mean cam gears right??

Always good to get adjustable gears if you go bigger cams, just for the "in case" you decide to get it fine tuned in th future
