Got a fine for violating a red light.. heh.. anyway, of course it was 2 weeks ago on the way to work so I can't remember the circumstances. However, it is an incredibly steep fine (327 dollars, wtf I could have been doing 40 in a school zone and copped a smaller fine). So, has anyone in SA or otherwise beaten a red light ticket, and what was the process like? I am ordering the photographic evidence, because I don't run red lights.

in melb you can request a picture of your car but i think you still have to pay the fine..

Get the picture of your car first.. I think the fine is a little steep, Does it mention loss of points? That has to suck.

get the photo first, go from there.

P.S some of the intersections here that have red light cameras were playing up so badly that it would just go off for no reason.. ofcourse.. those fines could not be honored.

Did you run a red light and speed through it at the same time? That may explain why the fine's so high? Which intersection if you don't mind me asking?

you might have copped one of those new camera's.
the one that gets you for:
1. running the red light.
2. speeding through it.
so a double whammy.
but get the photo, make sure all is correct. if there is another car in the photo aswell though, i believe that the fine becomes void.

**sounds like im repeating what EVO85 wrote, but i was typing it at the same time he was!!

there were circumstances at an intersection near me where the right hand turn had a redlight camera on it, due to the length of the turn even if you entered the intersection just on a green by the time you exited the light had gone red and people were getting dicked for that which is outragous and im pretty sure there fighting it, so if the was the situation you should be able to do something about it

Get the photo. I know in NSW you can now access the photo online from the RTA, but get it just to make sure.

2 weeks ago I received an invoice for going through the Sydney cross city tunnels without paying at 7.30am one Friday morning. This is, I live a couple hours away in Newcastle! and at 7.30am I was having a shower getting ready for work to take my boy to school and start work at 9am lol.... I rang them up and they said they looked at the photo and they have made a mistake and to forget about. It was then cancelled.

Dont trust those cameras or character recognition software mate, they suck ass sometimes.

If you get the photo see if it clearly shows your number plate in normal photo mode and in 'negative' photo mode.

Yep, mailed the form off for the photo on the same day. Anyway, it was at the intersection at south road / torrens road. No question it was my car, I would have been at that intersection at the stated time. Not sure how the cameras work though, the thing that makes me wonder is that often traffic stops to let trucks out of the servo just up the road from the intersection (ie the truck driver just starts pulling out, forcing cars to stop, both lanes cause they're usually b-doubles). I suspect that I crossed the line when the light went orange, but got stuck in the intersection.

Definitely wasn't speeding, the expiation notice says "red light offence" only.

I believe crossing one of the lines triggers the camera which may mean that the car behind you triggered it (not stopping before the line).

I'm not 100% sure on this. But back in the day I used to roll my car back and forth on first gear on slight uphill intersections and I would trigger the flash. (Eastbound Bell Street Maccas, Coburg).

Off topic the Queensland government is talking about turning all red light cameras into speed cameras as well. Can anyone say revenue raising.
