Can anyone please clear up a few things ive heard/been told about evo 3? I know they are not on the sevs list because we have the gsr, which is a pretty stupid reason if you ask me, but is there any way I could get an evo 3 imported and register for road use in nsw? I got told I could do a personal import if I live in japan for a year, been told I can get it imported in wa or sa register it in vic or qld for a few years then get nsw rego. apart from finding an genuine evo 3 already for sale in Australia which is rare, is there a way to get one from japan, new Zealand or any other country? any info would help as ive done some research but couldn't get a solid answer

I did investigate this pretty deeply when a pristine evo 2 popped up cheap.

out of japan...the only way is to live there for a year yourself...or know someone that does and then comes back to australia...they bring car in their name.

out of NZ....a kiwi coming to live in oz permantly can bring their personal vehicle and register it here. GOT mates in NZ planning to come here? get them to buy one and bring over.....in their name

you sir are a effin legend!!! time to make some friends from kiwi land :)

Im pretty sure that some of those rules that Brian mentioned have been changed a while back to make it more difficult to bring cars that arent on the sevs list, harder to get into the country , as people were exploiting the rules.

Best way to find out, is ring a local importer and ask...they will know for sure.

Try Kristian at Iron Chef...Ive been told hes awesome to deal with and knows his shit.

Yellow Plate Personal Import is the only way in NSW.

EVO 3's are becoming expensive to buy from Japan.... as they are a cult car and lots of Russians are snapping up what is left in Japan!

Here's one with a genuine 19,000kms. Would be around $30k landed and complied I would imagine:

From what I've read you have to live in jap or NZ for at least 12 months consecutively (not off, on) and own / have the car in your name for at least 12 months then you have to migrate to or move back to oz and import it (yellow plate it etc)... Then you have to own it here for 12 or 24 months ( can't remember 100% ) before you can sell it...

Don't know if this is 100% true, it's just what I've read...

NSW SUX BALLS.

That's right. The personal import rules are the same Aus wide... it's only NSW (iirc) that won't allow you to register cars that were registered under the S.A and VIC REP/REB VIN loopholes

I bought my EVO III already yellow plated and registered in NSW.
Advice = Hold the $$ aside and wait. When one pops up, jump on it. I waited a long time and accidentally stumbled on it whilst looking at another car for sale.
The problems with owning a single car garage and having a Mrs that wanted to sell her car and use the EVO III as a daily driver!! I couldn't let her do it.
I didn't even put it up for sale - word got around amongst friends and I got flashed some cash, then sold it.
One day I'll get another EVO III when I have more space. Til then, shit happens I guess and at least I know I had one but had to let it go.
You cant rush these things so be patient whether you hold onto the cash and wait here, or get someone overseas to bring one in with them.

I plan on saving and taking my time before I buy an evo 3. I just wanted to make sure when im ready to buy on if none come on the market im able to get on in some how, thanks for all the info really appreciate it :) and sucks to hear you had to sell your evo I hope you get another one some day.

You're going to be waiting a while before one comes up buddy... the money will burn a hole in your pocket

Pity you don't want to move to NZ for a couple of years then bring this baby over: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=645995851
$15,000 NZ = $13,000 AU

omg that is so sexy!!! maybe I should move to nz I was thinking to head out ro Melbourne so I can escape Sydney but maybe nz is a better option

"Small rattle" = Probably the notorious big end rod bearing failure evo engines get lol.
If someone in WA buys it then it probably will be OK as its already rego'd in WA. Depends on what exactly is written on the chassis, firewall and on the rego papers.
But when you purchase an interstate car and bring it back to your own state, the WA rego gets stripped off it and then it has to go through the whole blue slip checks and re-registration all over again.
That will be the scarey part because that's when the car and numbers get cross-referenced and the car is identified for what it really is.
If its a REPV stamped chassis, forget about rego'ing it in NSW.

Romeo how much are you looking at spending on a genuine yellow plate evo3? (if you arent sure about the yellow plate it means you can register it nsw)
