Hi just wondering which is the easiest way of removing my vr4 engine from my gsr without a hoist....I now have a shed at my brothers where I have the room to do it myself...any guides or help would be appreciated : )

You will need an engine lifter.
Once everything is disconnected from the engine, lift and pull away.
I would recommend lifting the engine and the gearbox together.

Lifter is about $250 to $350 from auto parts shop.

^ everything he said, except for the hoist. You can hire one from Kennards or similar for half the retail price. Make your life a whole lot easier with a hoist to get it out....

So its best to pull it all out from the top just using a engine craine?I meant car hoist car that's how the mechs pulled it out before dropped it all out the bottom

Can you pm how you would do it from start to finish I'd really appreciate it

have a search on dsm tuners or dsm talk, I'm sure theres a few guides there. Its pretty easy just pull shit out till theres nothing left lol.

Yeah I know I've just never done a engine swap ....the most I've done is a gearbox swap in my wrx a few turbo swaps a silicon intake pipe never anything on the lancer....so pretty noob on this diy

^another little trick i have learnt from working in shops in to get a carboard box, flaten it out. push all the bolt you take out thru the carboard and write were they came from etc. when you take bits off lay them out in your boot starting at the back and working your way forward. that way when you put it all back together you just simply start at the last bit you pulled off and work your way forward. its not hard to pull an engine out just time consuming thats all.

Haha i like your plan there Jacob...yeah basically as said however go buy some sealable lunch bags and label all the bolts in groups as from where they are...last thing you want is not being able to find the right bolt that holds your gearbox in

Main sets would be :-
Transfer case
Gear box
Engine mounts

You should be able to just drop it out the bottom if you have the height to jack the front up with a big jack..just disconnect all the plugs most shit is easy enough to work out from the female/male plug joining method  But if you drop it out the bottom you should get away with not taking the box off

you can remove it from the top with the gearbox still on too Mitch...just gotta man handle it a bit more!!

Theres no right or wrong way of doing it...I would be here all night typing if i was to pm you!!Its all in the planning!! Work out a plan, work in sections,it is very easy, once you work out your plan of attack....most time is spent/wasted, thinking-what do i do next/now?? Just take your time and do what the others suggest and mark as much as you can if your not familar with it. The cardboard idea is a good one!
If you werent so far away id come over with my mate JD and help you out....
