My car seems to be getting harder and harder to start when cold.Cranks over ok and every now and then I would get one fire every couple of cranks like its only firing on 1 cylinder.Starts sweet as when warm or hot just cold starts seem to be a prob.Got any ideas? :?

what sort of plugs are you running and are they fowled?

Jon

after checking the plugs for chickens and the like, you could also check they don't have any excess carbon deposits on them

how old is your battery? have you checked the water levels in it?

battery

How old is the battery? or how much use does it get? Sounds to me like your battery is on its way out. If you want to test it, run a volt meter on the battery and get some one to crank it over and see what sort of voltage drop you get. Thats my 2 cents...lol Hope it all works out for you...

ecu could be getting a bad read from coolant temp sensor perhaps? if its thinks the engines already warm then i would expect that to cause problems... i think there's something on VFAQ about testing it, but i couldn't find it. I did however find this: http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/downs/7678/dsmtests.html
which seems to have the same purpose. Provided its correct of course...

good luck mate!

here's the link http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-problems.htm

Ok battery levels are good.It reads 13v static and drops to 11v cranking.
Yes I am using coolant.Found the throttle closed switch was faulty but made no dif. :(

Yes I am using coolant.

if it pops and farts when it does start cold, do a compression test.......could be a head gasket.

Oops stupid me.When you said am I using coolant I thought you meant anti boil anti freeze rust inhibitor etc. NO I am not losing any coolant.

What plugs are you using exactly. Iridiums are a joke- you should just use normal BP6ES

They are NGK BKR5EIX-11

New temp sensor fitted have to wait till cold to see if that done the job.New sensor didnt fix the badly oscillating idle.

The -11 at the end of the number of the plugs makes the gap at 1.1mm, this may be to big. and the "5" may well be the wrong heat range
