We are getting a new stunt show at work to replace the ageing Police Academy show (movieworld).

Anyway, upon discussion to some of the show co-ordinators and mechanics the other day..the plan thats come down the ladder is to get 8 evo x's and have them converted to rear wheel drive so they can slide them. They also want them to go over jumps etc..!

I explained to them that mitsubishi have spent 10 generations refining this car and to convert it to rear wheel drive would be an expensive headache that would end in many blown transfer cases. The centre diff coupling would also need revising and the front driveshafts would need to be blanked.
The car will be in use for roughly 30 minutes, 4 times a day..with 100% load through the rear wheels spinnining on tarmac.!...my opinion, its naive to think it will work.

ABS sensors, yaw system and traction control would all need modyfying and the rear diff probably wouldnt cope either..and as for a transfer case holding up..we all know the history with that...

And jumping them..well, how long theyd take thaty for i dont know

What you guys think?

Big error?

I dunno what they've been smoking but thats one hell of a stupid idea. First of all- they're going to budget $400k for the cars, plus mods? Doesn't seem right to me!?

Hell who cares, I'd love to help them do it :D

But yes, big, dumb waste of money that won't work how they want.

I hate to say this but using Subaru's would be better (don't worry, I did slap myself).

Mini's doing an Italian Job style stunt show.. that would be cool.
Drive them down stairs and shit. Figure 8 precision driving etc..

are they wantign some fast and the furious action. tell them to buy some silvias, cheap parts, bling them out etc.

already rwd
plenty of kits available
alot cheaper, so for the money you can get it painted out, kitted, wheels etc etc etc
plenty of parts available.
less likely to break as its rwd already.

but if they want to do jumps etc. go the minis. but thats alot fo cash to smash upncars.

or what about mini monster trucks :p

Good ideas bout the minis...theyre FWD though arent they?

And the MX5 would go well too

Basically they want a Fast N Furious style setup with a car that will spin its rear wheels..but at the same time they want to jump it (god knows why) and want evo x's..its all backward..and im going to be watching to see if it even occurs, im doubtfull.

They should just forget about the jumps, and import pre- aus sold S15's as race/rally only (so theyre cheap) and put 100 more Hp into them and bolt whatever kit with whatever wheels and whatever suspension they want on to them. Itll spin all day, every day, and theres no right angled drive to explode...actaully theyd need s 14 gearboxes in them to handle it too...

The Holden ute show team use Proflex for their suspension, they jump them and haven't had a single failure with the shocks.

i think its a great idea, clearly the money isnt an issue so whats the problem? sounds like it would make a great show..

as for jumping them.. no issues..

ahahah should tell them if they need people to do the EVO RWD conversion i believe some of us will pitch in lol

if we get paid of corse.... lol

If they want Fast & Furious style RWD action they can buy cheap and uncomplied Jap imports and give them a quick go over for a good bill of health. It doesnt cost much to bring them in and repaint and vinyl them up and throw on a set of nice wheels. It would be much better and cinematic having a mix of vehicles with different colours, styles and sounds than having all the same cars IMO. I reckon get a red RX7, silver Nissan R34 GTS-T, orange Toyota Supra, yellow R33 Skyline GTS-T, a mega cool black old school Dodge muscle car with a blower hanging out of the bonnet, pink S2000, green EVO 7, Nissan Z's etc. It would look heaps better and colourful with a wide variety of cars all riced up to look like jap-spec racers. If they get damaged hell, its all part of racing and drifiting etc and easily to fix or replace than new EVO-X's. It would be a crowd favourite adding extra colours and sounds of the different cars together and much more true to the movie genre thats for sure  Just the one fully tricked out EVO-X in an awesome widebody kit, paint job and graphic scheme would emphasise the 'king' car that nobody can beat! That way they can keep an EVO-X and make the EVO-X lovers happy, but also give it much better exposure and signifying its superiority and presence over the other vehicles on the road 8)

italian style mini is the best idea yet... especially if you do the old school ones... o0o0o yeah...
