I need to install a catch-can in my engine bay as my oil dipstick and rocker cover gasket are leaking oil due to increased crank-case pressure.

For those who have done the catch-can mod - What fittings are you using on your rocker cover and did you need to modify any of the baffles on the inside of the cover? Do you have an engine bay pic showing the hose routing?

Cheers.

is it a worthwhile mod..whats does it do..sorry for my ignorance just dont know much about them and was wonderin if it was worthwhile as another safeguarrd about protecting my motor

dunno if u can see much enginr but thats where i have the oil catch can in minejust have a little tab at the bottom of the catch can wich bolt to a spare bolt hole on the rails

Sweet - thanks Frank-E. Did you weld larger fittings on your rocker cover or use the originals with the catch can?

just went down to pertek and screwed the fittings into the orig holes myt have to redrill them out tobe a bigger hole and tap a thread but yeh will save u welding fittings on

due to increased crank case pressure I presume because of big boost!
on the track i run 1.5bar never had any issue's with dip stick leaking oil or rocker cover on this build (4g63) but on the 4g93 i did have these issue's and retified as below.

I would be replacing your rubber seal on your dip stick first if you didn't do it when you rebuilt it,

-leaking oil from rocker cover, I'll ask same question is it a new rubber rocker cover gasket and spark plug seals when you rebuilt and did you use gasket sealant as per factory pdf's in the corners of the half moons and in the half moon seal and on top compleately running 10mm over the moon?

Depending on the answers above : you may not need top be running a catch can if the above issue's are corrected.

It's running 15psi at the moment but I've got plans to boost it up to 20psi when I can save the $$$ to get my AVC-R installed and tuned. I didn't put a rubber seal around the dipstick when I rebuilt it - I took the dipstick from my old engine and it never had one! :? so I'll have to hunt a seal down.

All the gaskets were purchased brand new from MEEK and I did the sealant as per the .pdf instruction, I've checked the bolt torques from the cover to the head and they're OK too.

Baffling the inside of the rocker cover where the breathers sit is a good idea too.

hehehe yep forgot to mention this thanks for picking up on that steve

ENGINR: id just put a catch can on it anyways.

With no seal on your dip stick i can see why your popping it and leaking oil,
its just a rubber o'ring for the dip stick, shouldn't be to hard to find one.

Or you could do the snorkel like mine ... Was bigger then just drilling out the sides ... I guess with the PSI I will be running it needs it ...

And when all finished

But that photo is before the engine bay got a little tidy up ....

Havent seen the snorkel method before and it looks like it'll vent a lot of air. How is it sealed in there? rubber o-rings?

Anyone else notice the DSM motor in the pics with blue rocker cover check out thermostat housing

Anybody got pics of how they did the baffles inside their rocker cover?
If your drilling out factory breathers it will utilise the factory baffle as long as you dont drill out to large a hole ;)

Running a compressed air under hyigh pressure from the outside of the breather oem pipes for the breather sometimes you will unblock it of old oil ncrud built up over time.
On the track Ive run 1.5bar boost and fingers crossed never blown out dip stick or had any major oil usage either, but mod away if you feel its the fix but ive never had an issue running factory set up on 1.5bar

I can't view pics through the firewall here at work, so I'm flying blind to any reference made to images!!

I've got a tonne of oil in my intercooler and piping and I've been told it's due to the increased oil pressure in my system. Given I want to run 20-21psi on the track I just want to improve on things where I can.

Correct me if I am wrong here but catch cans are 100% legal as long as they vent back into the intake yes?
