Hey guys just curious where some of you have had rust and how you dealt with it.
All replies would be appreciated
Thanks

Roof rust is the common problem most CC owners face in sedans, coupes and wagons. Once it bubbles up its already too late. The only one way to get rid of it for good is to cut out the old roof turret/skin and put a new one in and its cheaper to buy one from Proton than Mitsubishi. New turret, fitment and paint costs around $2500 unless you can get it done cheaper mates rates etc. No other common place for rust at all except the rear floorpan/wheel well - dont let it get out of hand, sand it back, primer it, paint it, look after it. My coupe was pretty lucky with no rust (thats because its sat in a garage for over 7.5 years  ) but being proactive will hopefully go a long way in slowing down or stopping the rust process. Got some photos I took of when I rustproofed the bitch on this link: http://www.evocoupe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1952&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=345

The Evo 1 I just recently bought had a bad case of roof rust. However I didn't go to the extremes of replacing the entire roof. Instead I took it to an auto body repair/paint shop and since I needed the car painted anyways, they offered to fix it for free. They did a deep grind out of the nasty rust areas along the rails (as is the common problem) and put some long aluminum strips in there and then sealed it with whatever sealant they used. Sprayed it over, and said voila.

With any luck I won't be seeing that rust anymore, but who knows ;)

but who's knows
is the operative words used in your sentence. Some have had some luck for a while doing it this method depends on the severity I suppose most it comes back within 12-18months.

Which could in fact be my result. However I haven't heard mention of grinding it out and resealing with aluminum strips & sealant (probably has been mentioned but I haven't seen it yet). On top of that the car was sprayed in some heavy duty truck bedliner. It might have trouble breaking through ;)

Obviously roof rust.. my mate and i fixed his car.. second hand white roof skin fitted ourselves and painted to the factory evo 1 black by harry, ended up costing $1100ish with a new front windscreen too and im sure he is happy with the job!

where else does it rust?

ive seen rust in the rear boot just near the mounting bracket near the seals.. this happened i think because the bootlid didnt have any rubber seals?

I had mine fixed up, sanded back, rust converter applied, and then a special new primer was used before painting, was good for about 6 months, then some small rust bubbles have come thru along the front turret just back from the windscreen but the rest seems quite good, I was getting other work done at the time so its hard to say what that fix cost.

I have no rust on my car since I have own it. However I have seen a CC coupe with some rusts on the roof near the rear windows. This car belongs to a customer who come to the panel shop I'm working in. The owner wants a cheap job done as he is selling the car so we sand it back and bog it up then repaint the section and blend in. And thats 600bucks job .....

it comes back in a year acrosse the middle all sorts of places hahah i let mine get ridiculous it was quite amusing actually the cut it off put a new one on bout 800bucks job done.. i done it too with a mate we arent panel beaters an it come up better than factory haha

Rust starts within the rails/ribs

I pulled all mine out, new skins and rails no easy way to do it i guess.

I have the 3 middle rails brand new if you want them $50 each

Nope not myself, but I've seen it in boot floors in the wheel well of CC Lancers. I've seen one car lose its entire wheel well to the point of needing another one welded in

The morale of the story is, if you see rust get rid of it immediately because it doesnt go away by ignoring it or downplaying its severity. Its just like cancer, its always much worse than what it appears to be on the surface.
