Help Support 4GTuner:

Ok well before ripping the alternator out I gave all fuses one last check.
The 80a Alternator fuse was blown.
EVERYTHING WORKS!!!!!!
I am pleased beyond words.
Seems like combination of replacing a blown alternator fuse and pulling the radio fuse has fixed the problem.
Charging at 14.5 when running with everything on.
Thanks for your help guys you gave me the confidence to have a go at it.

Thanks again to you guys. Im going to put a bit of love into it now.

Next is the handling. Springs, shockers and wheels!

Top work mate! I spent four hours friday night trying to get my dirtbike brakes bled, was ready to give up but gave it one more shot and huzzah!
Always worth giving it that one last shot after everything else has been tried :)

Hi all just a quick update...

After 2 trips to Regency I have got the forms....all ready for reg.

Drove it on a permit today and would have spent 3 hours all up in the RVR. Did not miss a beat. Motor is pulling hard and just loves to rev.

Down side is the shocks are stuffed. They are still the originals and have to go. The handling is not good.

Also in bad need of a wheel alignment too.

Thanks to all on this site I have found good info on suspension. I think I want to keep the standard ride height. Im going to be using this car as my daily driver and MTB transport so it will do a bit of dirt but not much. I would like to get it to corner tight and get rid of a bit of body roll.

How easy is the job to replace the shock absorbers? Rear looks pretty simple, front struts look a little harder.

Felt so good to have it back on the road!

All right thanks for the replies. Im going to give it a red hot go.

I will keep updating, if you dont hear from me again call the wambulance, im stuck under the car!

Hey guys looking for a decent washable panel filter like KnN or something similar. Any help with part numbers would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Shocks on their way. Waiting on panel filter in the mail. Can you guys confirm Penrite HPR10 fully synth as a decent oil?

Also can anyone recommend a place in South Aust that will do a decent wheel alignment?

Thanks and Merry Xmas.

Hi all just an update:

Put new shocks in the rear, struts in the front. Not as hard as I thought it would be, but I read the horror stories about spring compressors and the DIY mechanic, so I took my time.

I got a KYB Excel $450. The struts were leaking and rooted so it has made a massive difference. I still have the standard springs, and they are not sagging at all, but would I notice a handling difference if I replaced them with something stiffer? It feels slow on change of direction.

I did not replace the rubbers or bump stops which visually looked ok. Is this something I should do?

I am going to take it for a wheel alignment with this week so slowly getting this car back to glory. Thanks to you guys on here giving me the confidence to do it. Loving this car again!

If it aint broke don't fix it. If the rubbers look ok then don't bother replacing them. Yeah you will notice a big difference in handling when turning toward a stiffer spring rate, especially in the boaty RVR. Just don't go too low and have a look at the suspension thread for some ideas on what springs will fit.
