Okay, so i got a new intake pipe made up for me, went to put it on today, put all the pipes on how the old intake had it, fired t up and it idled fine, took off and all of a sudden i hit 3500rpm and it coughed and spluttered all over the show.

Wont rev any higher than that, and when you back off it just stalls, i put old intake back on to see if that fixed it and it works fine buuut i got this pipe made up to get rid of the old setup.
The only thing i can see it being is an air leak but christ if i know where it could be coming from cos everything is tight as hell :(
HELP!!! :(

hey aldo, thanks for replying :) yes atm my evo x bov is not recirculated (because retard welder didnt put the pipe in right spot but fixing that tonight)

i honestly think its an airleak, we pulled off the pipe from the left side of rocker cover to the intake pipe and it still idles the same, still has the issue.
If i put the stock intake back on and i leave the bov unrecirculated, it doesnt have the revving issue so it HAS to be my intake i swear :( it sucks soo much not having a garage when you live in tassie (winter = -2)

and you had no issues with idling once you changed intake?

here's some pics:

as you can see i have welded the appropriatepipes on to allow for the crankcase breather and the brake booster vacuum lines..
In the pics the blow off valve is not recirculating but i have since connected it up and made no difference.
The rvr has major hesitation to put the power down, it will spool the turbo up but go nowhere if that makes sense.
Its now really hard to start also cos it just keeps stalling on me.

Also, i reset the ecu and hooked it all back up and wham! it starts driving really well..then once its warm it goes back into what it seems to be "limp mode"
HELP!!

What is the blue vac line coming off the intake pipe just before the 90deg bend going to the turbo for ?
Block that hose off with a bolt in it down there.
If that plumb back hose is not blocked off air tight the way you have it in the pic, it will try to stall.
If the hose under your bov is not air tight or (split) it will lose boost & not rev out.
Cheers !

what about the blue elbow straight off the turbo intake - how well made is it?

if its a bit soft (especially with heat) it will collapse under vaccuum & the car will die

would be interesting to see how it performed with a steel bend down there & a straight joiner to the turbo inlet instead of the elbow.

(this was how my hks rs intake was on my evo 6)

disconnect the bov completely and block the bottom bov hose and try it. sounds like the bov is leaking hard. was it that way around before, or the other way? because the way you have it now the boost will push up against the valve and open the bov instead of the boost trying to keep it closed
also you said the brake booster line you welded on? the first line near the afm should be to the carbon cannister not the brake booster (i cant see in the pics) brake booster needs to plumb in after the throttle body.

i like your monster thing around the master cylinder reservoir. lol

he has the bov installed the right way (can install them reversed for hectic flutter btw)

also the small vac line provides the boost to the bov to help keep it closed so i dont think thats the issue.

the small line off the intake looks like a breather/vent for a mbc/ebc so yeah can block it off but i dont think thats the issue.

Right, so numbers one goes down to under the brake booster (seems like the most important one)

Number two just goes to the crankcase breather (i have since the photo was taken cut it down more so there is no kink) on the old intake this was left unconnected.

Number three is boost/vacuum related so it i just took it off the old intake and added it in same spot.

Bov is coreclty installed. What i keep trying to get at is that once old intake goes back on it runs fine, no issues at all, as soon as i put new pipe on it chucks a hissy fit...
Is it worth seeing if evoscan will throw some error codes at me?

yes please...old intake is back on atm but going to try again tonight..not a good week, now the engine is starting to make a bad noise :( fml

There you go, i got my mate to fabricate a pretty much exact replica (shape wise) of the original intake but in SS. Hope the pics help champ.....

When you say a bad noise, where from and what kind of noise.
Do yo have different filter to install on your new setup? Try running it without filter just to see if it will run good.
Also, do some logs on evoscan and send them to me, if possible the one when it cuts out or runs bad idle.

Cheers,
Miodrag

Hey Mio, your a day late :(
Here comes the bad news. So i put the stock intake back on and it was running fine.

I was sitting in traffic on the way home from work and i heard that noise again but it didnt happen at idle, only in revs and not consistent, anyway i babied it to my mates workshop and he has definitely said its internal :(

So motor is getting stripped down as we speak..nice rebuilt motor hey? :( seems the stock cams are severely worn so they must be replaced.
Worst thing is i've had the car worked on by a reputable workshop at the other end of the state and ever since i got my timing belt kit put on its had this whirring noise and i could never figure out what it was......

We pulled off the timing cover to realise the bottom cover had massive grind marks out of it because it only had three bolts in it, the idler arm was rubbing straight through. Not Happy about it at all.

So yeah, seems like my car will be off the road getting some mods so if anyone has a nice set of cams to suit im keen! haha, oh and best place to buy full gasket kit and arp head studs ;)
Cheers,
Shaun

Sorry to hear that mate. Just for your idler mate, everyone is using early evo one thinking it is same motor as evo 3 but for some reason they made plastic cover sitting lover over idler so we acctualy need latest evo which is not as tall as early model one. ;)

Wow, sorry to hear dude, that sux big time. Any chance of some compo from the workshop that fit the timing belt??
I'm 99.9% sure they will deny, but worth enquiring...
