hey guys,
just wondering what spark plugs you guys run?
how important is it to gap them? can anyone explain to me how you do it?
cheers,
Mat :)

ngk bpr6es-11 i they are, gapping is very important, if not gapped right then u will need new spark plugs again very soon, those plugs come pregapped at the correct 1.1mm, but to gap them yourself, get a set of feeler gauges.

the ngk site says bp6es-11's, i'm pretty sure i'm running colder ones though, 7's or something i think. i haven't had the chance to have a look though. by the time i pull them out after work all the shops will be shut.
how do you use these feeler things to change the gap? is there filing involved or something?

nope, dont need a feeler gauge
just went to autobarn and bought bp6es, it has a 0.8mm gap standard
the 1.1 gap is for NA i think :?

1.1 is a bit high for a turbo car isnt it?

Correct gap is 0.7-0.8 mm for turbocharged 4g63 ALL MODELS. Including all evo's.

Check your service manuals. PM Me an address if you don't have vr4 service manuals and i'll send you the DVD.

I run BPR6ES, I had a set of iridiums in there but they lasted a total of 4000 kms before one of them melted.

i actually noticed a sticker on the bonnet tonight that says "spark plug gap - 0.7-0.8mm"
the plugs i am running now are NGK BKR7E...
I pulled them out and they were coated in black ****, gave them a clean with the wire brush and all's good now! :)
I think I fowled them up the other morning when the car was sitting idling when it was cold, I've never had a problem otherwise though.

your running waaaaaay to rich matty..
get it tuned again man!
even a road tune (im sure pete wont mind if u tell him that its way too rich)

if your plugs were a wet black, its rich
if its black and you couldn't clean it, they would have been fouled (gotta sand blast them)

they should be a whitish, brown colour.. with no wierd blue spots (pinging)

they were black, coated in charcoal stuff, it came straight off with the wire brush.
it's still misfiring on part throttle though, i think i might order some new ones and give them a go.

just wondering, is your car boosting earlier??? after fixing the leak?

coz im thinking, your cars running really rich because its making more boost at a lower rev therefor on the map, pete would have tuned it rich if boost went higher than it was tuned for... (safety reasons)

but trust me matty, your car launching that night was crazy.. but it really did remind me of my car at calder park

looked like this!
probably even more black!!

plugs

i run a 7 heat range plug in mine, one will fowl itself occasional at start up but clears itself after about 10 seconds.

it seems to be boosting at about the same stage as before, but it isn't blowing anywhere near as much smoke as it was... i turned the boost down a little because it was spiking. (boost was turned down saturday night when you saw it)
i just ordered some new BPR7ES plugs, hopefully they fix up the misfiring. :)

plugs

that is the exact plug that i am running (gapped to 0.7 mm) and apart from the occasional fowl up at start up, i have no other problems. The plugs are now 2 years old and are probably due for replacement even though they still work perfect.

I dunno what the deal is with the BKR7E's i have in there now?
when i got the car though, it was running BKR5E's... one of which i melted :?

lol
u should never run a hotter plug on a boosted engine

6's are standard
5's are too hot
go 7's... or 6's...
wanna give me your old plugs for me to foul up on the dyno???
lol
