So what r peopes opinions on speed cameras in vic. Revenue raisers or actually helping save lives?

They haven't got any revenue from me in years ... it sucks having to glance at the speedo every time I pass through an intersection though.

With any luck Brumby and his crap government will be out tomorrow and Baillieu will maybe give the motorist a break ...

Speed Cameras or as they now are called "Road Safety Cameras" are not put in place to save lives, they are a distraction to drivers and to put it simply, are an income. They say that all teh Road Safety Cameras they have installed have curbed fatalities etc but its actually the technology in the cars that have gotten better and curbed fatalities.

They should be investing in Better roads not in more road safety cameras.

I agree ray police with cameras are important. But is speed really the main killer. Or is it alcohol affected or drug affected people who then speed and crash? Or just crash in general?
If so as if a camera is gonna slow them down anyways.

And yeah. Our road do need fixing first. Between Blackburn and springvale rd on the eastern is really wavy. And they decide to repave my parents street which was in great condition. Now it's bumpy and messy. The pavement now spills over into the gutter and looks crap

I use heatherton road every day to work. and that road is a mess. The outer lanes closest to the paths are terrible, pot holes, bumpy. just terrible.

I have to agree that the main purpose of the cameras is to raise more $$$.They do not ping road hogs,tailgaters,red light runners,dangerous lane changers, drunks and other acts of stupidity!!!!!
However our elected leaders seem to be under the spell of their own spin when they say that they save lives WTF!!
imho there needs to be a far greater police presence on our roads to get more of the" drivers"??who do the kind of things I mentioned first up

It's true. I got caught doing 108 going toward Geelong and 108 on the way back. Then in the paper someone else got done for 108 sane spot. On the eastern fwy a cop got done for 108. Makes me wonder if cameras are set to say u were doing 108. I'd like to see stats on what speeds people get caught doing. It's just strange.

If greens are elected I wonder if they will get rid of them all Coz of the amount of electricity they use

Couldnt agree more with most of the comments posted up, the cameras have been proven time and again to have no impact on reducing fatalities.

And why are the roads in victoria so shithouse? - With the amount of money the state govt and vicroads get from fines they could at least fix the road integrity.

Spend the money on more police on the road IMO.

I think Victoria has 180 fixed speed and red light cameras from memory?

I live in Perth now and we have 13...........

One of the alexadra ave ones has it. Talk about over kill. There are like 7 on that road in a matter of a km. Ha ha ha ba
