Hi guys, I was travelling down the highway yesterday and looked down at the speedo and realised the needle was sitting on 0kmph... Great news i thought... :/ Anyways, prior to this happening. The needle would so called "bounce" but not enough to be overly concerned that i needed to replace/fix it. My dilema now is i'm wanting to know if anybody knows how i can fix this. I've done a quick search through google and found possible solutions as to what it could be. I don't however wanna go fixing things that aren't the problem of course. My thoughts are perhaps the speedo gears/cog teeth have stripped over the years which is causing non contact with one another...

So, does anybody know what the direct problem could be? Any help is appreciated. Not knowing my speed sucks and my application on my phone isn't 100% accurate either.

Cheers

Remove the gauges cluster and unclip the speedo cable from the back of it. Then unscrew the other end of the speedo cable from the transmission in your engine bay. Then remove the cable through the firewall and spin it to make sure it spins freely by checking that both end s of the cable internals spin at the same time. If so, then I would say either your gauges cluster might be shot, or the nylon gears on the speedo drive have stripped. To check the nylon gears, simply remove the 10mm bolt from the speedo drive unit on your transmission and remove the speedo drive unit (the white plastic section that the speedo cable screws into). Then check that the teeth on the nylon cog on it arent damaged. What could strip the teeth off the nylon cog is when the speedo cable itself seizes but the centre diff worm drive still tries to turn the nylon gear. If the gear wont move, the teeth will strip off it. Last check is to look at the back of your gauges cluster and try spinning the part that the speedo gear goes into. If its sticky or seized, thats the problem. Chances are its just a snapped end of the cable either where it plugs into the back of your gauges cluster, or where it sits into the notch in your transmission.

I have the same problem... the speedo works when I drive normal but when i pick up speed fast like 0-100kph on boost my speedo won't keep up and drops to 0kph then bounces
