I've recently put a evo3 big 16g turbo on my car has 3" exaust from turbo, now when i first changed it you could here the turbo spooling or ringing at round 2500rpm to 3500 rpm witrh foot 1/3 of the way down on accelerator sounded mean (not boosting it), now it dosent make that sound anymore but boost press hasnt droppd but acceleration and power has, i had to put standard exaust back on for noise test and that stopped the turbo sound but have put the 3 inch back on and the whining/ringing sound of the turbo hasnt come back, the lifters have just started ticking and seems to be leaking a bit of oil from oil return turbo side not sump side, could this be the reason??

Don't tell us this is an El Cheapo item off ebay!!!

Your symptoms sound like, your turbo is going to die.... Or like what mine did, cooler pipe was loose.. Still showed boost but wasnt going anywhere.

Where is your boost gauge plumbed into?

I bought my turbo from advanced jap auto imports in sunshine, it was steves one off his evo 3, Turbo dosent really seem like its going to die, dosent blow any blue or white smoke a/f ratio is fine and still goes hard but not as hard.

Everything is tight, i havent taken the turbo over 9 lbs yet so there shouldnt be anything wrong with it, im stumpd, its only started doin it when i put the standard exaust back on for 3 days....weird.

ok, just double checking.

So far we have
Stock exhaust was put on for test
3 days later put 3" exhaust back on
Turbo is not as loud
Car doesnt go as hard

What intake do you have?
Have you cleaned the filter recently?
What BOV do you have and have you tested to make sure its not leaking?
Do you have a bleed valve? was this changed recently? Check Vac lines to turbo
Check your wastegate actuator see if it is a bit softer..

At risk of sounding like a broken record, pressurise the intake and check for leaks (pressurise it properly, don't just spray soapy water around the place).

Yep thats right, Intake is standard at the mo getting the front mount with stainless piping, just cleaned my k&n filter with the recharge kit, BOV is one of those silver GFB ones, just discovered theres oil aroung B.O.V flange and in the trumpet but theres none in the piping before it or after it, Whats a bleed valve? If they dont come out with them i dont have one, Vac lines are sweet and actuator seems sweet to.

Found the problem guys, you know the reducer inside the filter intake where it clamps around compressor, and its hard as to put over, that was half blocking the turbo compressor from sucking in the air, everythings sweet now, dont know how it came out, thanks for all the help guys.

shouldn't need to still use that with the e316g as the mouth is larger than the old 14b.
