hey guys

just wondernig if anybody has found a set of springs that allows the vr4 to sit nicely..

i have whitelines on mine, a bit high for looks but performs well

im after looks for my other car, i've got my old set which are chopped springs of some sort, they made the car look perfect previously but i dont want cut springs on them..

i've owned king springs previously, but seriously cant remember what they looked like..

any suggestions?

i need to close the gap in the wheel arch.. also i dont want to be scraping everything..

thanks guys

ive got pedders and it sits perfectly, tyres about level with the wheel arch.
they arent in the car at the moment though

I had pedder in my car when I bought it, they had been in there a few years, and after a while it saggedat the back, which made the font look like it was high.

If you want the front to come down barry, perhaps a set of coilovers will do the trick, if not, get some stockies compressed!

Mate here u go...
reep the benefits of 2 years of research between myself and 87Vr4

Part numbers.King Springs.....
KCRL-29 is the rear lancer spring with an 86mm ID that will sit ur car at a Guard to centre height of 295-300mm providing u dont have koni shocks(the spring seat is higher)

KFFL-80 is an AV Ford telstar front spring with the same rates as what ud buy off the shelf for a vr4,this spring will sit ur front @ around 320-330 mm guard to centre with the use of a GSR galant/se type shock..........(The vr4 font shocks have a 20cm higher spring seat so for the same spring..a gsr/se will sit 20mm lower, purely because of the shock, get a GSr/se shock and it comes down to 320mm or so)

This is the best combo weve found yet...bear in mind if u have a 3 inch exhaust it will sit around 40-50 mm off the ground :D

Illegal and annoying yes...but it looks thaat good. 8)
This is the combo that 87Vr4 and i both have.
Dont buy a koni shock...sorry to bag them
But there just too soft..
the KYB stuff shits on it..and its cheaper.

ohh yeah,if u do this..get new bump stops, all round, thats one thing u cant skimp on...do this and the car will be slammed and drive fine, whilst still retaining the 30mm rake the car has for the sills...so it sits level.

Drive fine maybe, handle :? not likley.

Laws of physics, Shocks were ment to pull the wheel up, not pull the chassis down.

Make sure the outside of the control arm is lower then the inside point.

There arent any issues with tthe cars handling with this setup, front control arms are level.Bumpsteer doesnt exist either.

how do these compare to the king spring low's??
To be honest i cant compare becaus i havent driven on the lows, the car may handle a touch better, but as i said, with the setup i mentioned it doesnt handle bad..and i think the rates would b the same.
The only reason we went that setup was to get it as low as possible..that was the main goal,to eliminate the giraffe stance, the hotbits may do the same,i was searching for JIC FLT-A2 but i dont know any guard to centre figures on either of those .

barry,
about the kings, u ever been in a car riding on kings?
i had them in my gemini and my rx7 and a mate has them in his beemer. they seem to provide a pretty decent ride height and the cars handled well, but seemed to have unecessary harshness.
that's just what i noticed, i should have the pedders in my car soon as something to compare to the kings.

what do you have now matt?

yeah, kings are kinda clunky i've noticed..
my whitelines are smoother.. but the whitelines are higher than the kings..

decisions!

i've got my old chopped springs, maybe i should put them in.. lol

ive just got the stock springs in at the moment, it looks like a monster truck! so high!
when i bought the car, the previous owner had to take the pedders springs out to get it through the roadworthy. they'll be going back in soon enough! :)

the setup JAP63 was mentioning is a very good setup, theres no harshness in the springs, & as for clunky... were they trapped?

iv taken it on the track & the suspension performed very well.

handel bumps through corners very well, & travels very nicely for everyday driving.

if the shocks were any harder in the front the cars daily drivability would be compromised
