6:20am, one eye open, start the RVR and ratarrarattaatttatalklleekkeeaatatattaa, LIKE WTF?

no serious damage, just took the BRAND NEW ALERTNATOR AND A/C BELTS with it :(

pissed me off at the time, no other car to get to work in, last thing i wanted to do was get grubby that early in the morning, specially being dressed for work (blue collar).

yea quickly jump on here and did a search, i remembered something about a hyndai one being the same.

found a post by SIVART about it being a sonata one, walked down to my local parts shop and did a quick comparasion, was all good.

managed to get to work at 10am :)

i thought a i remebered reading something a while back about the hyundai harmonic balancers having their TDC mark differently. not the case for the RVR.

are the timming marks on the harmonic balancers between VR4 and EVO 1-3's the same?

I have had 2 HB's split on me! Pain in the ass!!!!

its funny actually, never really gave any notice. though with the new one on now the motor feels and sounds much different to drive.

Must have been very old or suffering from a lot from vibrations.
Was the alternator or other pulley wobbly?

i did a timing belt/water pump not so long ago and replace the ancillary belts at the same time. i did have to tighten them a fair bit because the belts are new. you know hoe it goes, inital tension then re-tension a week or so later as the belt gets used to its new home.

then the radiator blew its top off, thinking the new water pump caused that. all has been fine for a month until the HB went, probably because of the new belts.

when i did the timing belt, i inspected the HB, it had the usual rubber crack around the circumference but actually didnt look that bad, the engine has only done 160,000kms, albeit 160,000kms with no mainteance it appears.

its a messed up noise, you really think yourve done something major , and spits belts all over the place
