Hey guys, just had to replace my power steering rack on the ZR4 after useing 5litres of steering fluid in 4 months, all out of the side boots I was reading previous posts on the job an was worried, but i found it not as bad to do.
All i had to do was remove the crossmember under the gearbox, then drop off the transfer case but left it on the tailshaft so i didnt lose any oil. Unbolt exhaust of turbo only. I then just removed the sway bar brackets. Also removed the corner plate on the drivers side that goes between sunspension arm and crossmember. Lastly undo all hoses and steering column uni joint and rack brackets. If you make the rack do a fullright turn, then you can just push the whole rack housing towards the passenger side until the right steering rack arm clears the suspension arm and the whole lot slides out under the car towards the drivers side. Took me about 2 1\2 hr to remove and the same to refit.
I don't know if others have done this way or not or if its any help. The rack cost me about $550 t get reconditioned.
