Stero/headunit change

I have a 98 sports gear x2... it has the standard jap headunit and a minidisc bay. What are my options for changing headunit or adding another? some of the controls on the standard headunit control the aircon, radio and options for fuel economy, mileage and fuel left etc.

Hey mate,

Can you post a couple of pics up for us? Sounds like you might have to sacrifice the climate control stuff in order to fit a new stereo- otherwise mount a standalone stereo for your audio in a different location?

That's the two connectors I have. When I unplug either connector the display will only work on the fuel/mileage/speed section so I think your right in saying I may lose climate control. What are those connectors referred to guess I need to buy a harness. The aircon still works so happy to take aircon if I can get another headunit in as some of the Japanese bits of it don't work in the UK. I took those pics last night will try and get some better ones when I go to work.

Ebay do a bluetooth module. It wires to the stereo inputs and you give it 12v.

Do you want more features than that?

Bluetooth for phone and playing music? that would be perfect! Do you have a link?

It's a bit silly of Mitsi that the fuel stuff isn't displayed on the screen above the vents (is there even a screen there?)

As for climate control- the only feature from that that's really worth keeping is the 'Outside Temp'! I guess it depends on how badly you want a single din stereo? Maybe you could consider Jack's option and go bluetooth?

Are you going to change the speakers/add amps or anything?

Literally just want to be able to answer my mobile or play music off my phone or another device. Speakers are good enough not looking to add an amp or sub or anything. Just want something above radio and CDs.... the mini disc bay is ancient tech so I've removed that. There's a box running from the headunit to the mini disc bay which I've left in place. Even if I cannot use my phone being able to play off my phone or a USB stick would be nice.

It wont do phone calls as it has no microphone. But it will do a usb stick and music from your phone.
i got one, but havent tried it out yet.

you will have the required power and rca wires in the mini disc cable. Too easy!

I'll take a look I'm guessing I'll have to rip apart the box or mini disc play then.
