G'day all, I've been the owner of a GSR 93T for the last two years and have now purchased a VR4 with the following mods.

including removal of blance shafts and the kit installed.
The ecu has been chipped and socketed using a MEEK chip. Turbosmart dual stage boost controller has been installed, Evo 3 Coilpacks, Evo 3 TD05 big 16G turbo, Evo3 Exhuast Manifold, 510cc Injectors, walbro fuel pump, malpassi fuel pressure regulator, turbosmart stage 2 bov, jspec front mount.
I am also about to wire in an SAFC2

The car boost levels are sitting on 14psi and I was woundering what max safe boost would be and what sort of power figures i should expect.

Every car is different Dave. You would be best to put a datalogger on it and see what boost you can run without knock. As an educated guess I'd say with your combo you could turn it up another 2-3 psi pretty safely though.

Seriously though, I'd have thought 20psi wouldn't be a serious problem with 510cc's, FPR and Walbro. I don't even have an FPR, just a stock VR4 reg.
At around 20 psi I reckon you would be making just shy of 200kw's atw, but that's just my guess.

EDIT: Ah ok, just realised you're running a J-Spec intercooler. Maybe 20 psi is a bit too high, in which case Tim's advice is sound, use a datalogger.
 
510's maybe pushing it a bit, some evo 560's might be better..
have you had a datalogger on yours mo to see what sort of IDC's your getting? it would have to be over 100% duty wouldnt it lol
 
I want a bigger cooler but the body kit is a one of a kind AMG one and i dont wanna cut it at all is there any way around this?

do you have A/C that works? the stock VR4 cooler is fine, just get the in/out enlarged to 2.5"
 
Youda, your mods are pretty similar to mine depending on what dump pipe you are using.
ON 15psi, I got 141 kw at the wheels on a local dyno with afr's in the low 12's. I have only seen a max of around 75% on my 510cc injectors and have never had any knock.

My gut feel is that close to 20psi is possible but I don't have a stable boost controller to be able to slowly wind it up and monitor knock and duty cycles as I do so.
 
i have an evo 8 intercooler sitting in my garage any chance of getting that in there? is there a good plkace to buy prefabricated piping? im looking at meeks atm.

I have an evo dump pipe.

i have an aus spec vr4 and when i had to put jap spec cooler i had to cut up the front re inforcment bar only to get it to fit, i didnt have to touch the actuall bar, i now have a larger cooler so on the weekend i see how i go with fitting that in, again i dont think i will be touching the front bar.

At 14 psi, I don't think you would gain much at all. But at 20 psi, that's a different story. If you like, send me the evo 8 cooler and I will do some proper testing with it for you :D.
 
lol, might give it a go myself, lotta shit to do to this car when i get back to townsville. Is there anyone keen to give us a tour of the city tonight, bit of a cruise. myself and the missus are dying to get out of the house for a bit and are keen on seeing some of brisvages

You could drive to Bretts Wharf, park somewhere around there, then catch the citycat through to Southbank (or vice versa), toddle around there for a while and then catch the city cat back to your car. Being night time though, there's not much chance of running over some rowers though :p.

Depends on what you want to see. I can't come out and play tonight as it's a school night :(.

It should fit pretty easy. I have an E7 cooler in mine and all I did was to get the piping on the end tanks modified :)

how did you get them to fit? was it standard vr4 piping or custom stuff.
 
I used a slightly modded version of the kit that Meek sells.
You might also want to try Plazmaman as he makes the kits himself and it will work out cheaper for you.
