Can someone tell me how the hell your meant to take of the nut on the top of a front kyb stut (nut holding spring in). Theres nothing to grip onto so the whole shaft just keeps spinning. I'm almost ready to throw the piece of crap across the backyard :fuuuuu:

Cheers

Rattle gun, that's about the only way, I used to work next to pedders and thats how they do it to.
if it still spins with the rattle gun we use an old timing belt to grip it with at work, seems to work ok

well i shoved a metal rod through the top hole to the bottom hole once..
i reckon a coat hanger through both holes would also hold up!! try that..

Metal rod doesn't work, it just stops the top spring hat thing spining, the shaft still spins :(

As CB Lancer says. Vice grips and lay it on the ground. Put a ring spanner on the top and then smash it with a hammer if your not reusing it.

If you are and you don't want to take it somewhere same approach but put some non slidey stuff between the vice grips and the strut.

Rattle gun ;) just take it down to your local mech workshop and ask if they can rattle it off for you. removing that nut on the strut isnt for wrenches ;)

Rattle gun did the job!

btw has anybody fitted low kings springs to kyb excel g front struts? The springs don't sit very well in the lower seat, the diameter of the spring seems too narrow compared to the stock springs so the springs sits to one side with a gap on the opposite side, doesn't look very stable

lol nah only the rears do, the fronts don't plus its recessed so you need a socket and hence even if it had the flat bit you couldn't grab onto it
