When Imprezzas first came out AWD was an option. Usually 1.6 and 1.8, so there will be gearboxes around.

sakercars.com.au make a conversion kit.

Taken from 914 world

Yes, we do have the parts to convert the Subaru box to 2wd. The parts for the
conversion consist of a machined locking sleeve and a cast aluminium backing
plate for the extension housing. Please note that these items will only suit a
5 speed Subaru box, not the 6 speed.

Prices for the parts are as follows:

Convertor sleeve: AUD$120.00
Blanking plate: AUD$110.00
If bought together, total price AUD$210.00

if its an automatic bridge the fwd conector in the engine bay mid 90's models had this feature

May be a silly question on my part.. But why would you want to covert to fwd.. Would it not be better to convert to rwd? Or is the diff not strong enough to run the show by itself, and require more mode..?

I have a mate who put it MY00 to RWD (Stooge) and he blew 3 diffs within 3 weeks. Not doin burnouts, just trying to launch it and drift.....like I said....Stooge.

You will need to be quite a bit more specific; what car? what model? what gearbox? why? permanant or temporary? I work at Subaru and can most likely answer your question if it is asked right.

well the plan is to use an engine and box for a dune buggy that i will be building but i did find out that some liberties came out in front wheel drive not all wheel drive
