Hi all,

Currently i have Tien coilovers in my vr4. They are crazy hard. I had them rebuilt about 2 years ago and they didnt make them any softer after i was told they could.

Any how im willing to trade or sell them but what other options do i have? My eye browe ride height is 315mm rear and 325 mm front. i want to keep the same height but a softer ride.

Has any one with coil overs got a reasonable ride or can i go back to non adjustable strut and spring combo with that ride height.

Thanx guys,
Michael.

Surely they have adjustable damping? I have always wondered this myself, if coilovers are hard because people adjust them to be that way or if they can only be hard. Went for a ride in a mates MR2 once, basically the P/O had set it up to be a tarmac race car (it could eat r32 GTR's around mallala), but it was like riding in a car without suspension at all.

No damper adjust. Only height, camber and castor. Ive had 4x 180's 2x r33 gtst's an r32 gtr over the past 9 years all with coilovers and none were as hard as these in the vr4.

Whereabouts are you located mate? I have Teins as well that aren't damper adjustable any they don't seem too bad to me. I'd have to find out the spring rates though...

i have teins in my vr4 which arent damper adjustable either,
riding on 235/35r18 and they are quite hard yes

i have Tein full adjustable all round and i tell you now, the soft setting will feel worse then a stiff setting due to the spring rates. id prefer sudden jolts then consistent bouncing around on a soft setting.....

if you want a better ride, get different springs, will save you from buying a new set of everything...

+1 to both things he said.

It would appear that someone has either swapped out your speings for harder ones, or ordered them with heavy rates.

I feel your pain, it sucks, and makes the car less driveable, even less enjoyable.

how do these handle mate, I have koni red's and kings in mine, which is fairly firm and handle well, don't think they are as hard as teins though

Yes. I have Hotbits coilovers with 6kg/mm front springs and 4kg/mm rear springs and I can adjust them from "nice and comfy" to "race track" stiff no problem.

Who rebuilt your Teins? Did they alter the valving? What spring rates do you have?

The rumour that all coilovers provide a stiff and bumpy ride is a fallacy.

they were rebuilt by QLD shock absorber reconditioners. They said they macined them and fitted kyb inserts. It sure doesnt feel like it.

Ive owned cars with fairly comfortable coilovers but IMO these are rediculous. Feels like i got solid tyres.

No idea. I gave Fulcrum the part numbers from the rear springs but they couldnt tell me anything. The front springs dont have any numbers on them.

The coilovers were in the car when i imported it from Japan. That and the exhaust were the only mods.
