Switching to E85

Is it really this easy? this site claims all viehicles after 1980 have a higher corrosion resistant fuel system, so switching wont harm your viehicle. I'm kinda intrigued by it, but i have no idea if these japanese cars had the same standards as the usa back then, what do you think? http://www.change2e85.com/servlet/Page?template=Myths

We have a RON octane rating here in Australia, not MON like you do in Canada. What you want to run, is the strongest pump fuel you can get your hands on. Japanese tuned ECU's dont like running on the lower octane unleaded fuels.

I have used ethanol fuels and all my cars have had no problems with it.

I wouldnt use it, I have seen brand new cars (well under 5000kms)running crap from a coating left on the sparkplugs from Ethanol fuel being used.

Like I said, i've used it in 5 different 4G mitsubishi's, 3 of them being forced induced, and I haven't had a problem with it at all.

I'm running the highest octane feul they supply us around here, it's called e94. It's not 94% ethanol, just a ethanol blend 94 octane. Do you guys have e85 down under?

Not that I know of, I think the strongest we have is 10% ethanol.

almost all of our feul here in canada has the mandated 10% ethanol in it, if not all. yep just 10%. This is the company i buy my e94 from, heres an article about ethanol from them http://www.huskyenergy.ca/downloads/AboutHusky/Publications/FactSheets/2007_FS_Ethanol.pdf

And i took this from an article i researched,

'Nantais said Ottawa has supported the production of ethanol, but falls short on a policy to help make it available to Canadian consumers across the country. The independent gas station UPI owns the only two retail E85 stations in Canada -- in the Ontario cities of Chatham and Guelph, with two more possibly opening soon in London and Peterborough.'

'As well, he wants more government fleet vehicles that can run on E85 or biodiesel and more fuelling stations for them. Currently there are about 20 government E85 refuelling stations from British Columbia to Ontario, but they are not open to the public.'

So we only have two public stations here in canada. Ditching the ethanol kit idea, atleast until there is a station nearby.

Ya, and what sucks even more is right on my gas door is a sticker '100 OCTANE'. So it's obvious my car has been tuned to run it. So i buy my e94, and add octane booster to every tank i plan on boosting hard with.

Forget octane booster, you need tolulene.

We don't use MON in Canada, we use AKI, just like the US. I don't know of any country that uses MON as the "headline" rating at the pumps. Husky 94 Octane (AKI) is equivilant to about 98-99 Octane RON.

i read about toulene, have you run it lots? did you buy just toulene, or paint thinner? (some paint thinners have extra chemicals)

I'd seriously consider converting my fuel system for 100% ethanol if it was available here, but for 10% its not worth it. Petrol is going to run out sooner of later, and we cant just have 15 million "dead" car's, surely they can be converted to biofuel... the sooner the better.

toulene is like $2.00L here i think.

honestly i reckon my car runs better on the 10% ethanol united 100ron than it does on mobil syn 98ron which is a great fuel ethanol is good
