Hi guys,

I have a '97 HSG with an auto. I'm thinking about putting a tdo5 turbo on it one day and using an aftermarket walbro. My question is, how strong are these autos?

Is there a reason that mitsubishi put a smaller turbo on the autos other than for spooling earlier in the rev range? or will this conversion be safe for the life of the box.

You need your box modified mate. Second gear band will brake for sure if you increase power.
I use to have Td05 20g/16g combo on my HSG and it had modified gbox.

damn it. i was thinking about this upgrade as well on my ssg.

where would someone get a modified auto from?

Ok interesting... would be great to hear what Rockabilly has to say about that Jack of all. Not at all doubting what you say though, you know alot more than I do on the subject. Can you link a thread, or explain how to do and how the blue mod works? Thanks for your replys

The RVR auto tcu eprom chip is written much milder than a VR4 turbo auto & Magna TR TS.
Meaning Mitsu made the presure control solenoid bleed off more presure via the tcu.
The blue wire mod that Jack spoke of is to shorten the length of bleed time at all speeds
which is identical to the bleed time at wot 6700rpm auto mode gear changes anyway.
It is not as high as the presure that I make my autos change at. An RVR manual turbo would be
good for the auto & you might find a cheapy 2nd hand one. The bigger the turbo, the later the
auto gets going off the mark & leaving corners. My boxes can handle downshifting to 1st gear
at 45kph for fast cornering with a Big turbo. A higher stall convertor helps to get it going
if you use a big turbo & cams etc. There is also 5 front diff ratios that makes a difference.
Cheers

Thanks Rockabilly you sound like a very knowledgeable person on these boxes, I really appreciate your reply. The boxes you can build sound excellent, I'll pursue your skills if I decide to make it a serious machine one day if you are ok with doing the build, in the meantime finances are the only thing holding me back. Thanks once again mate.

hey rockabilly how would the auto (with or without the blue wire mod) handle the td05 in a daily driver with the odd spirited sprint to the posted speed limit from traffic lights till i got money to get a new auto built?

Hi barcode, I'll guess the std auto should handle decent psi with the td05.
But if you manualy drive it like me & abuse 2nd & 1st engine braking, it will
die. If you just leave it in 'D'rive, the mild tcu will look after the box ok.
Drive it like you stole it & cross your fingers. Aplies to Man & Auto.
Cheers

What about the stall converter?
Didn't I spin mine? lol

Ok so is this schematic correct for doing the blue wire mod properly? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=114513&d=1287678223
