Hey guys

Looking to replace my very old set of GAB suspension in my Evo 1. Wondering if anyone has used Tein Super Street and what they think of them? Only thing I've really heard a lot about Tein is that its pretty harsh ride. But seeing as they have 16 levels of damping adjustment I figure you can hopefully dial a lot of the harshness out if needed.

I'd be looking at importning them brand new from Japan, I see thet Fulcrum Suspension in QLD distributes TEIN stuff that has been developed for Aussie conditions, but they dont link the shocks for Evo 1's.

So, just really after some opinions before I take the plunge!

thanks Tenji, I think I can get them for a better price from Japan.

I was looking at Hotbits, but I think the cheapest I saw on ebay was around 1.5k without all the adjustments Tein have.

daniel, have you have been on a circuit with them? My cars a daily driver, so road comfort is more important, but I wouldn't mind getting out on the track

shocks

how come fulcrum dont have teins for evo 1? they should be the same as normal australian cc gsrs as I have priced some up before.
Tein directly from japan are hard no matter what setting. Hence why fulcrum revalve them to suit australian road conditions, i think they are trying to say our roads are crap.... which is probably true but I dont think our roads are that bad...
Getting them japan however cheap they are would involve shipping and tax costs... make sure you get all the exact prices first.

tein

Buying tein from japan WILL give you a rock hard ride. When Fulcrum were appointed master distributor for tein four engineers flew over and spent six months dyno-ing all the product range and re-valveing to suit our conditions. Now to me saving a couple of hundred dollars to make your car unpleasant to drive is not so smart.

I am a key dealer for fulcrum there for I fit tein shocks all day long, I also have them fitted to my evo1 adjustment is presently four clicks from the softest setting which is perfect.

There is no listing for evo1 all I did was to use an evo4 part number and change the pillow ball mounts from evo4 to cc lancer (which has only 2 studs)

Nine times out of ten I remove the shocks from the box and fit them straight to the vehicle no adjustment to ride height necesary as they are pre set to give 110mm of ground clearance.

I have dis-assembled hot bits D2 racing logic and theyhave no where near the build quality of tein.
Hope this helps

you work for them?

hows about organising a group buy

tein

I work for Mermaid Suspension Centre which is a key dealer for Fulcrum.
As long as Fulcrum have them in stock I can do a group buy. Unfortunately no listings for vr4 though.

Swellso
Fulcrum had no early evo shocks in stock so I used evo 4 ones and just swaped the pillowball mounts with a set of cc lancer pillow ball mounts. e1 2 3 & 4 struts are the same

GSR front struts should fit the VR4 (my old ones went into a AUS FWD GSR (one of those early ones) Just need stiffer springs to suit

Thanks for the comments and advice guys, does anyone else have a set of the Jap spec ones in their Evo they can comment on?

I'm not really looking to have E4 ones modified, would prefer some off the shelf coilovers.

They dont get modified as such, the strut top gets changed out to the correct one.

Yes EVO fronts will work in VR4's.
