OK, On Friday at least 4 of my lifters collapsed. So I'm taking this as an excuse for me to rebuild the engine

I will be going 20 thou Arias Forged pistons, Cometic HP gasket, Gates Racing belt, ACL race bearings, ARP fasteners. Nothing extreme.

I will also be getting my E6 cooler and piping on, 3" exhaust, GT pumps big 16g and GT pumps E3 manifold.

Question is will the stock fuel pump and 450's (or whatever J-specs have) be able to cope with about 1.2 bar? If they won't will I need to get atleast 550's, Walbro and a chip? I don't want to go full aftermarket. I just want to chip the standard single board ECU.

I'm just extending my bank loan, so I don't wanna take out any more than I need. Your advice would be great.

the 450's will be too small buddy
go the rx7 550cc's..
they should be okay with a walbro
also dont forget the fpr

get your crank balanced / balance shafts removed while your at it
some arp head studs and a good head gasket will help also

as for lifters, make sure u order the 3g lifters as the 2g lifters are a bit short..

but honestly, if your lifters are collapsing, just get them replaced..
will cost you under $300.00 bux installed...

and rebuld when the motor is truely dead

Get Wiseco pistons mate. They're so bloody quiet, and coated from factory.

Some EVO 510's should be enough to suffice.

Baz Jon's a mechanic so it's going to cost him bugger all to rebuild. Don't wait until the engines truly dead because it makes it 10 times harder for the person who builds your old engine

don't be a soft cock with a pissy small turbo like that!

i'd go for the 550cc injectors aswell. they're cheap and easy to setup. i'm running them with a walbro and stock FPR.

what ecu are you running?

Don't forget to factor in another 1000 for incidentals like new oil/water pumps, pulleys, belts and so on. Also, money for machining work.

i agree with that... is the motor down on compression or anything?

in my opinion, you'd be better off spending the money on decent engine management rather than a rebuild if it isn't required. these motors are pretty strong in standard form.

ah in that case, go for it..
but the stockies are good for whatever a 16g can make...

Yeah as said. I'm a mechanic, so I can get all the parts at cost and my boss' brother runs a machining shop, so it'll cost me a carton of piss. What I thought of the lifters collapsing was just a good excuse for me to rebuild it.

As for the H-Beams and bigger turbo, I was never looking at making huge power, just something with a bit of balls that I can trust day in, day out. Plus the fact that I don't REALLY need them. More money I borrow is more interest I pay :( 16g, exhaust, E6 cooler and 16psi would do me. Is a different story for my project I'm about to undertake though.

Yeah I thought as much about the injectors and FPR. The engine was/is very low on compression when I bought it off Jase (we came to an agreement) so the plan always was to rebuild it. It still runs well, a lil smokey when cold and under hard boost.

I looked deeper into the noise today and it is coming from the inlet manifold, so I'm assuming that one of the butterflies has come loose/broken etc. So I'll find a manifold (subtle hint). Put that on and see how we go for the time being.

Thanks for the help guys

if you are after a cyclone manifold, i have one in the garage
i was planning to use it, but i've decided to retain the single runner manifold..

pm me if u cant find one..

Heh, conversely, if you want to go for the single runner manifold, I should have one available soon. (not going to install the cyclone till after regency on the 20th)

UPDATE: ended up getting an Auspsec (larger runner) intake amni of Dan.....was upto 1am putting it on as my club had a cruise the next day....Tapping noise is still there

So this is my perfect excuse for the rebuild. Will talk to the bank tomorrow. And see what they can give me. I'm hoping for around 4k. That should get some nice goodies on there

Loan got approved today 8):D

Got a bit more than I wanted aswell, cos I'm gonna grab the GT pumps 20g 8) :D :D

I now have the decision of either Arias or Wiesco forged pistons? Peoples thoughts and opinions. And are Cometic head gaskets the go? If so what thickness?

I got two good quotes, 1 from Rocket ind. and the other from Meek. I'll just grab the cheapest prices form each one obviously.

Can anyone recommend Good bearing brands? Ive heard ACL race is pretty good, but Genuine is also known for being good. I dont need to skimp on anything so price isn't an issue. Specially when it comes to bearings and pistons.

I need some advice from some guys that know what they are on about.

personally I'd go for the wiseco (they come ceramic coated)
also the cometics are good stuff.. go the 1.6mm (HP style)
basically lower comp but higher boost, u know how it works...
the non HP style i believe is a 1.2mm gasket

as for bearings, ACL should be fine, most of the guys i know use these..
i've got some stock sized ones in my cupboard actually..
want some cheapies ???

haha, no thanks. I think Bearings are one part of an engine you can't afford to scimp on.
Wiesco's it is. Yeah HP gasket is what I was thinking. I think I'll just go with ACL, will find out the difference between normal and race series....I suspect a big price difference...thats about it.

If i grab some RX-7 550's, a Walbro pump (recommended type?) and a Malpassi afpr that should do me fuel wise shouldn't it?

Malpassi regs are garbage.
SX, Aeromotive, Sard would be the go.

I'd up the compression ratio too. 8.5 would be nice.
