Hi guys

Just a general enquiry really.

For those who have done a motor conversion and kept the original GSR radiator, some of you would have gone bigger turbos, or manifolds with external gates etc etc.

Now in doing so, I'd imagine the standard GSR thermo would stick out too much.

What thermos do you's replace with - slimline Davies Craig ones? and if so, what size? Do you get one which covers half the radiator as to keep it as cool as possible?

thanks

I've replaced the stockers with two Davies Craig fans, both mounted to the front of the radiator. I think they're 14" from memory, but they've been great - no problems at all keeping the car cool.

14" is a good size and mounting on the front of the radiator is a good choice frees up alot of room in the engine bay and cooling properties

hey instead of running twin, is there an option for just a real large one to cover half the radiator.

i have the AC fan at the front of the radiator, and my thermo on the inside of the engine bay is a davies craig but looks heaps small in comparison to the GSR ones. the problem is, the GSR one wont fit with all the crap in the way hence the davies craig slimline being put in at the time of the engine build.

The thing is though, is that when im running A/C full ball on a very very hot day for about 45 mins, my temp gauge goes to about 3/4....

my radiator is almost brand new, the thermostat was changed at the time of the engine build which isnt that old, the radiator cap is a ralliart one.. so the only thing i can think of is maybe the single small thermo isnt cutting it? i dunno just a guess... its only in real bad weather

Hey mate,

The 14s I have basically cover half the radiator. They're pretty big, two of them cover the entire radiator core. You could try with one like that to start with, and replace your aircon fan with another down the track if you're still having problems?

Is the car getting hot when you're moving? Say on the freeway or something? Or is it only when you're stationary? If it's when it's moving, your fans probably aren't the issue, as it'll be getting plenty of airflow as you drive along.
