Hi guys, its time for new tyres to pass engineering. The brand new 205/40/17 84W tyres I have dont have a high enough load rating on them now that the AWD coupe weighs 1200+kg (84 is a tad too low as GSR have 85 minimum and EVO's have 87 minimum)

Therefore I'm going to need to step up to a 215/40/17 tyre which have a very common load rating of 87. My budget is between $150-$200 each so just wondering what recommendations you guys suggest as far as an all rounder is concerned for grip and longevity?

If you can still get them there, Hankook R-S2s. (Can't get them in NZ anymore :( )

Next street tyres I might consider are Falken Azenis RT-615s, if I stop buying 2nd hand semislicks off trademe

kumho ku36??? should be in budget

The KU36's are supposed to be very good and well on their way towards a semi slick (no quite though) but will be out of your budget with a RRP of $253 each at tyre centres with the size being only 215/45/17~87W. BUT if you get them off Option garage (who is having a massive Kumho sale atm...) you will pay $161.00+ shipping each for 215/45/17~87W KU36

You can also try KU31's if you dont want something close to a semi slick.
I got my KU31's off Option for $118 each + $33 a pair shipped:thumbsup:. I havn't fitted them yet though so no review:unsure:, but you can always ask Josh-tsv who got them too with the same sort of deal!

Wow, just read up on the Kumho Ecsta SP1 KU31's and they sound great! they even have built in tyre wear indicators to let you know when to rotate them lol They at least come in a 215/40/17.

The Hankooks R-S2's I read up on just then in some reviews. Apparently they wear out very quickly and you'd be lucky to get 10-15,000kms out of them. They also harden up after a bit of heat and lose their grip apparently. At least thats what some people claimed.

The Falken RT615's look way too exotic and better suited to a competition car. They've gotta be more than $200 a pop easy lol.

I'll get a price on the Kumho Ecsta KU31's tomorrow hopefully. They're rated best for longevity and up there for wet, dry and noise as well :) http://www.kumho.com.au/passenger.htm

Thanks guys :)

Sumo Akina/Firenza ST09, closely related to the Yokohama S-Drive but has an extra groove (they were band from being sold in Japan due to the fact it was almost identical and almost half the price lol)

Just though id add, I had Kumho's SPT KU31's on the Evo and they were pretty decent..I couldnt reeally fault them, and they were quiet. I dont know how they go against others, im sure theyre not premium, but i liked them.

I couldnt get an 87 load rating though...there were no 19 inch tyres with an 87 rating...wtf!

Faaaaaaaarrrk. I just called up a local Tyrepower store and they wanted $205 each for the KU31's! and O'Neill's Tyres wanted $225 each!! You got them for a heaps better price so I sent an enquiry to Opton1Garage to see if they still have the deal going on!

The Tyrepower guy recommended the Nexen N3000's for $150 each if I wasnt keen on the KU31's price.

+1 on the RS-2s

Kuhmo KU31's FTW Rob.

I had them on my old Civic and they where unfknbeleivable and having had Nexens previously they Kuhmo's out perform them in every way.

Just my 2 cents :D

I got a quote of $210 per tyre a while ago including postage to melbourne from sydney for the 615s. I'm running them at the moment and really happy with them.

I'll try and find the number of the people i got the quote off if you are interested.

We have a winner!!

Thanks for the info Dane :) . OPTION1 GARAGE comes up with the chocolates with the Kumho KU31's!!!

I just placed an order for 4 of them. At this price I'd be mad not too! :)

Hey Rob,

The 215/40/17 KU31 are $118 each and freight to 2324 would be $28 per pair so for the full set delivered it totals $528. Please let me know if you would like to go ahead with this order.

Thanks,
Emma
