Hello 4gtuners ,

looking at replacing the timing belt on my evo 2 , its been 4 years and about 12,000kms

would you bother doing a balance shaft eliminator kit on a stock motor ?

Thanks
Travis

yeah, only for the fact i think if it fails, it could interfere with the timing belt - and you dont want that :)

Getting rid of the balance shafts is an engine out job imo. Too much stuffing around trying to clear the passenger chassis rail, then trying to rotate the bearings.

Not worth it, especially on a stock motor. Just swap both belts, new tensioners/pulleys and be on your way.

agree with the Paul/EVO-00X also,

after doing it, i would not do it with the engine in the car, getting the front balance shaft rear bearing out can be an ass of a job, also having to pull the sump in car sucks.

I just replaced both timing and balance chaft belts.
Gates make their racing range (the blue belts) so you could at least use one on the balance shaft belt to be sure you have a better belt on there, if you dont want to take out the balance shafts. Didn't cost the world either.

I didn't realize its a engine out job , I think I might leave them in for now then , but tempted to get some cams now

thanks for all the info fellas
