ok guys so i;'ve gotten the 92/93 hybrid going and i am having a few little timing issues i think

running an evo ecu afm injectors so treat it like a 93 or 63

syptoms
rough idle soundslike it maybe missing
CEL clears after ign off sometimes on it's own while driving
retarded acceleration until 3000 then kicks you in the pants and gives you all the go
intermittently just misses with a powerless rev all the way up the range

going to get new leads
change cas

anything else i should try?
i have access to a scan tool not sure if it'll read the evo ecu though anyone know any locally available scan tool brands that read early evo ecu's or should i just scan as if it's a 4g93t and hope the codes are the same?

Check the O2 sensor as if it is not working properly it can give you ALL the symptoms you mentioned combined.

I have a chipped GSR ECU and a Palm and MMcd tools, that "should" tell you any faults

Otherwise, bite the bullet and get the aftermarket ECU in and get it tuned/diagnosed

I agree, we stuffed around with trying to start my car for weeks before biting the bullet and just getting it tuned. My issue ended up being the big cams which I'd imagine the MIVEC would add some similar complications.
I also had a dead coil which I never would have found. I should have taken it to the tuner as soon as it was together.
Of course my skills are limited compared to a lot of you guys on here...

the low profile cam on the mivec is similar to the std gsr cam if not alil more tame so it shouldn't have a big lumpy idle (mivec is completely out of the picture atm.)

further driving has revealed the CEL only comes on at cruise once you get over 3k rpm it goes out and you have full power the idle is alil lumpy but timing is now bang on 5' tdc (earlier it was WAY out initialy 15' i then set it to 10' before doing the smart thing and reading a manual and finding it to be 5') strangely it seemed to run better on 10/15 than 5.

the cel comming on at cruise only leads me to lean to wards rob and say 02 sensor. it did cop an absolute hiding as the old engine died (witness who stopped to help said they saw the poor girl spitting flames which can't have been good for it. as it sits the car is drivable it's being scanned on monday. mikey if the scan fails would i be able to borrow said items for postage = alil scratch your way for the effort (all would be returned after issue is diagnosed)

from my reasoning theres 3 things it could be (transitor/coils (got a spare set of coils and 2 transistors) cas (got a spare was working on other engine) or O2 sensor (don't have a spare) ) already swaped out afm made no difference (going to try putting a 90' bend between pod and arm to try and get the airflow more laminar i read our afms hate being behind pods esp ones like mine that offer little to no resistance to airflow as it messes up the reading)

hopefully the scan on Monday says a definitive answer like this sensor is bad fix it at which point i'm on my merry way boosting

ok so i've narrowed the cel down to only while at cruise and below 3500rpm exactly over 3500 and it goes away and car runs perfect.

anyone know when closed loop kicks in and which sensor is ignored as this would narrow down the issue significantly

cel is off boost after 3.5k rpm your pretty much guaranteed to be on boost havn't tried sitting in gear and hovvering around 3.5k 4k rpm as the car is feck off loud and would kinda look alil douchy but if you neutral rev it and slip the clutch in above 3.5k rpm there none of that gutless lag like your towing a trailer

ok got it scanned came back with CAS and knock sensor faults knock could have been from back in sept when it was blasting flames and shiz out the back but it's been almost 3 months with no battery on it.

changed cas today no change gonna check the knock tomorow. if still no change it get handed to mechanic

the symptoms are kinda reminiscent of when i had a 1.1mm plug gap. but back then there was no CEL gotta wait for money then new plug leads get ordered

help was free thanks mr mechanic and your sacn tool. it was the knock sensor for future reference 4g92m knock sensors are not compatible with 4g93t/4g63t (evo) they have different part numbers etc. also learnt you can't just not run one either.

so there we have it all mystery solved. now to break in the engine properly and save for the haltech ecu.
