Hey guys,

Just pondering at the moment, and am looking for some advice...

I currently have a 1997 Mitsubishi FTO that I use as a daily driver. The car looks bloody hot with carbon fibre boot/hood, coilovers, and little mods here and there... Turns heads, which can be a good thing and a bad thing...

Anyway, I was looking at selling it for a bargain RX7 that I found, but the RX sold... So I still have a few nibbles on the car, and I was thinking of getting a Mitsubishi RVR instead...

Anyone have any feedback on the RVR, or think I should just keep the FTO and concentrate on getting the Lancer on the Road and Engineered ???

I guess one of the Pro's vs. Con's is that my Mrs is only on her L's, and if I get the RVR she wont be able to drive it as it is a Turbo ... But I think we can apply for an exclusion as both our "family cars" are Turbo AWD ...

Some pics of the ones I am looking at

Yeah, would look meaner with a carbon venting hood ... Hehehehe ...

I wonder how much after market parts there are for these things...

Dude.

One daily.

One project.

Don't mod your daily.

Them's the rules.

RVR is good for if you have kids. No kids? Stick with the fto. :D

both my daily and project are modded..... pfft dont need rules! lol

Took the lancer for a spin today ... Just around the back streets and to put some fuel in .. Was awesome to drive her ... But yeah, was looking at the room in the garage, and I don't think the RVR is going to fit... I have a tandem garage, but I don't think it is going to be big enough .. Grrr...

So yeah, may just have to stick with the FTO and try to get the Lancer engineered and rego'd ..

RVR's are surprisingly good cars- if you are sick of owning a coupe- then RVR's are the way to go. There are some bargains around if you look- there was a Super Sports Gear (SSG) with a blown gearbox going for $3500.

I own a non turbo RVR as my daily driver- and the thing is brilliant! The performance of the turbo models would blow an FTO away. They also handle quite well when they are lowered

Yeah, only want the 2.0L Turbo ... The white one from J-spec is 12k landed ... Just gotta rego it ... So far that one is in the lead.. But alas, if she don't fit in the garage, I wont want to park her on the street ...

It is not hard to beat the FTO in performance stakes.. They are a pretty good car, but as far as other imports go, the get munched by a lot .. Hence why they are still P-plate legal .. I have done a lot on the FTO to reduce its weight, and have got it up to 111kw at the wheels so far.. So yeah, it now goes pretty darn well ...

Hard to get rid of the FTO when she looks as hot as this..

But is there any aftermarket parts for the RVR .. Like c/f hoods and stuff...

FTO.
Step back... have a look at what both cars look like.. easy decision really.

I dont think RVR's are that bad- they can be made to look ok!

I reckon buy one thats already here. its a buyers market at the moment- i'm sure you could get a HSGR for 10k if you tried.

As for aftermarket parts- why would you want a carbon bonnet anyway!? The SSG bonnet looks sweet IMO- spend the cash on making it go abit better!!

Rules are made to be broken lorrie!

I'd stick with the car I already have and focus my efforts and money on getting the Lancer registered.

or

You could get the RVR, buy a tandem trailer and tow the Lancer to race events.

bingo!
wise words.

Yeah I was thinking of using the RVR to tow the lancer to tracks.. But did some measurements today, and there is no way the RVR and the Lancer will fit in the tandem garage... So, as I don't want to park the RVR on the street, looks like the decision has been made for me ..

But I do have to say that the RVR's do look hot ... So much better then a forester... I just wish my garage was a double and not a tandem .. Grrrr... !!!!!

Thanks for the replies though guys ... Btw, ended up fitting the Clear Cam Cover today ...

if you cant fit a lancer and an RVR into a garage, then its not a double garage!

FYI: Measurements

RVR 4460 x 1695 x 1680
FTO 4320 x 1735 x 1300

RVR's do not have the tow capacity to tow a loaded car trailer.

thinking otherwise is dangerous. That you would think it at all speaks volumes of your actual experience towing cars.
