Is the transfer case a sealed unit?
I'm asking this as I noticed that when I removed the driveshaft (and had the front jacked up) the oil was leaking out. Does this mean a seal is stuffed, or does the yoke form part of the seal?

Aidan...the yoke forms a seal against the gasket inside the arse end of the transfer.
if you had the front jacked up and the tailshaft out then it will leak out of the rear of the transfer case all day long.

does anyone know how to tell the difference between GSR, Evo 1 & Evo 2 transfer cases? Are there any ribs bolts or numbers etc I have a evo 1 and 2 transfer and cannot see any difference

Gsr/evo1/evo2 transfer cases are the same and interchangeable

there is minor differences between gsr and Evo but I can't remember, something about the cast mould or the body

I just made this pic up for reference guys. This should help people figure out what ratio transfer case they have.
All the casings for GSR, EVO 1 and EVO 2 show up as the same part number in ASA Michael.
So whether you have a GSR, EVO 1 or EVO 2 transfer case it doesnt matter. They are all the same 1.09 ratio (24/22).
JUST DONT USE AN EVO 3 1.074 (29/27 TRANSFER CASE WITH A GSR OR EVO 1/2 DRIVETRAIN!!
EDIT: Also updated image in Transfer Case rebuild thread in Tech Stickies.
