hey guys,

i'm needing someone to re-tune/clean up the map on my wolf.

the wastegate actuator on my new turbo seems to be slightly different to the one on the old turbo and has adjusted the boost slightly.

i've been told that the map on the ecu will need to be checked and adjusted which seems fair enough but I'm not paying $500 to get it done like I was quoted yesterday by one workshop. fuck that! I paid that for a full tune last time round, surely to "clean it up" can't be the same amount.

Anyway, I got a pretty good quote from AVO... I'm assuming its cheaper there because you don't have to pay extra for your mechanic's time plus the dyno hire.

Has anyone actually had their car tuned BY AVO? Opinions?

I mentioned the poor fuel economy and the fact that it's running rich as and blowing black smoke, and they said to improve the fuel economy they'd pull more boost out of it, which doesn't make sense to me... I would've thought you'd lean it out to get the AFR's right :?

Apparently he got a good quote... there's a few guys in the BLCC who use AVO to tune their 4wd turbo's and get good results.

Give em a shot and see how it does?

Any fuel economy is better than what you have now :)

yeah, the fuel economy sucks... you can smell the unburnt fuel when you are behind the car

their theory on getting better economy has me a bit worried though.

I know AVO have an awesome reputation with the WRX club. I can't recall
anyone who has had them work on their car who was unhappy with the
results

But they are priced pretty high too. But maybe it's a case of you get what
you pay for.

Good luck with it.

dont go to avo , i used to work around the corner from them.. my boss put his 200sx in there and all i ever heard from him was complaints..

Every business has it's share of good and bad customers. Some good, some bad, hopefully more good (that's why they're still around).

AVO's been around for a LONG time.

Croydon is wayyyyy to far!

I'd go to Rank, but the quote I got from them to clean up the tune on the car was $500 whereas if I went straight to AVO it'd be about $300.

The problem with going to Rank is that they have to hire someone elses AWD dyno to do the tuning which is where the extra costs come in, and they always complain to me that they don't get a chance to tune the car properly because they're under pressure with time and also they're not the ones driving the car, so they have to communicate with the the driver to accelerate, back off, etc. instead of just being able to do it themself.

also, the car has been rich as hell after every tune so i wouldn't mind trying somewhere else to see if the results differ.
