Sorry if this has been covered.. :(

What's the difference on the exhaust side of these turbo's
I have a td05-14b,

If i upgrade do i need to get a new dump pipe, if so, does the dump pipe end in the same place, (can i connect my current 3" without modifing it?)

What is the difference on the exhaust side?

Cheers

hey dude

14b has a smaller zorst side its 060.... the big 16g has a 070 zorst housing which is the best option free the flow alot more....

i would suggest talking to kyp at ATP he is a guru with td05/6/4 turbos =]

b16g witha 20g wheel and the 070 rear i hear is a good option... maybe even talk to jon... he is making massive power with standard turbos =]

hope this helps!

Cheers Grant-

firstl.. its an 060 rear housing... what turbo are you going to upgrade from? if its a cordia turbo then the VR4 rear flange is totally different to a cordia one which means you will need a new dump pipe made.

Rear housing sizes:

Cordia 080
VR4 060
Evo 070

upgrading from a td05 14b..

so anyway went out boosting tonight.. it was making a strange wistling noise. i assumed the turbo. had a nice bit of clear "track" and boosted 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. anyway as i shifted into 4th, it sorta sounded like an external gate.

i thought it was strange. anyway asi went to apply the accel, there was a very strange stalling noise coming from the turbo. and i checked the boost gauge to find that it would not get even 1 psi of boost

When i was trying to get drive it just made this strange really loud shuddering wistling noise..

visually.. nothing broke, all the vaccum hose intact. the wastgate actuator still connected, but NO BOOST. :( very short lived, ohh well. i noticed when i put the engine in there was quite a bit of shaft play. i have to assume the worst

Jon.. do you still have that 16g kicking round? time for a replacement

you probably have shaft play (thrust play) and probably have bent fins on your compressor wheel.. which is probably from not running a good air filter and sucking something in.

i could do you a Big 16g hi-flow into a 14B, will use the 060 rear housing and good for mid to low 12s on a properly setup car..

dont really konw the history of the components.

Since it's been in my car it's had the std air can and filter, but previous to me using it ??? who knows.

I have only had it in the car for a couple of months, and only running well for bout half that..

Anyway I need to do something. PM me a price..

cheers

I've got a TD05 small 16g, what are they good for boost wise?
This is from a VR4 RS, so it has RS ecu, small 15g, 510injectors

14b/ small 16g or big 16g.. all have the same rear wheel.. it is not ceramic at all.

if you see that dyno graph its in 3rd gear.. 3rd dyno runs arent 1:1 ratio and give inaccurate readings on power.. 4th is 1:1 ratio and give the most accurate power readings.. with a small 16g it would be fair to say it would hold only around 180kw.

Sorry Jon, but you are confusing me. How is 4th gear in a Galant any closer to 1:1 than third? (there has never been an east west driveline made that has a 1:1 ratio)
VR4 3rd gear 1.115:1
Vr4 4th gear 0.833:1

Ok.. im no gearbox expert here.. but every tuner ive spoken to etc.. thinks that all cars should be run in 4th gear as it is the closest to 1:1 ratio.. running a car in 3rd gear will ramp it up quicker and obviously it will make more power then what it has..

take example my car.. made 219.7kw has run 118.76mph.. almost spot on.. it was done in 4th gear too..

Bent fins and f*ckd thrust bearings...Put the two together and id say the thrust bearing has died and its letting the shaft float axially,in and out,the wheels at both ends are then moving in and out,the housing is stationary, therefore the wheels rub on the housing, gives itself a highflow.... and at the same time destroying the wheels and probably the backside of the oil cartridge
