49178-01450 = EVO-1 turbo (Small 16G) Comp wheel: Inducer 46.48mm Exducer 60.07mm (IF you can ever find one off an Evo1 that is REALLY a small16g)

That part number is from an Evo 1.
Same turbo as I have :)
There seems to be a bit of confusion as to whether it is a small or big 16g though?

I pulled the comp cover from mine and measured the wheel and it is a big 16g.

It probably wouldn't hurt to measure your wheel to see which one you have there!
 
The difference between small and big 16g is the vanes isn't it? Big/small/big/small = big 16g. Same size (all small) = small 16g. Or at least that's what they post over on galantvr4.org (US Site)
 
ive got my engine in bits and just had a bit of a play with the turbo...... :( doesnt look good

there is a little bit of shaft play and the wastegate was shifted over.... :shock:

it was letting exhaust gas past thru about a 2-3 mill gap around the flap!!

i hammered the gate back to normal but yeah......

what u guys think?

Only the 14b has compressor blades that are all the same height Lorrie, the Small and Big 16g's have staggered blades.

Here's something to keep you busy for while. Ever wondered 'what the f*ck is a ETE52?' or 'Does a Frank 4 flow more than a 20G?"... well now you can decipher and compare the identifaction names that some performance shops give their turbos by the info below :lol:

Can someone identify the car that 49178-04510 is off please? Is it a twin scroll of a later evo? It's listed as a TD05H on that portugese site that lists all MHI turbos.
 
Anyone know what this turbo is 49178-01730 (its a TD05 something)

A quick google search brought up a number of different answers - but mainly from a 2.6L starion...

A guy on PF is selling the comp housing - i just thought it might be worth a hybrid upgrade.

EDIT - a continued google search confirms a TD05-12a-8 from a 1990 2.6L starion.

sooooo prolly not worth the effort.. Anyone know the flow rate or got a comp map?

I have one of these and tried to fit it to my vr4 - but the compressor cover fouls on the front engine mount oops! :blink:

what 16G front cover do I need, or would I be best getting? Kando sell the stock one and also 18 & 20g ones

is this TD05H 16G6-7 bigger again than a Big 16G or what? I am going to measure the inducer/exducer wheels tonight.

even if the stock 16G cover fits, is there any advantage to getting a 18 or 20G cover? more flow?

Covers must be matched to the compressor wheel. A 20 g cover on a 16G wheel will not work very well.
