Hi i couldve asked in my other post but things will get mixed up, just a question, im having a few slight headaches with my car and trying to fix it all.
Im curious to know if theres meant to oil where the intake side of the turbo is?
I pulled my intake pipe of the other day and found there to be a little bit of oil, id say equivalent to a few drops, so i pulled apart the intake pipe and the silicone hose that joins it to the turbo has oil all around the inside but more old oil like residue.
My car blows smoke still...
Could the turbo be gone or going?
Could a turbo playing up cause my knock sensor to go off?
When under abit of load most times the knock bar on the dash(meek chip) goes 5-6 bars and car free revs and doesnt move much. A good example is a hill, id be in 3rd at about 3000 - 4000 revs and go to slowly accelarate and just tapping the throttle sends it off and i have to drop gears and slow down. that only happens under load or on a hill and happens almost definately if in 4th or 5th gear on a hill
When it doesnt go NUTS like that it just gets random knock counts, i get in 2nd after 3 - 4000 revs and same in 3rd gear and fourth and fifth
My car goes ok in 1st and 2nd but as soon as i start putting the foot down i get knock after 4000.
It also struggles to get passed 5000revs in 3rd and is almost impossible to hit the rev limit.
Any feed back and help is much appreciated
Thanks Andy

It's pretty normal to have a small amount of oil in the intake pipe.

How much smoke does the car blow, and when? It could be valve stem seals, or rings - when you have a turbo oil seal failure it's VERY obvious, everything behind you is obscured by smoke when you put your foot down (it still pulled fine too).

If your getting detonation the ecu should be pulling timing which may account for the sluggishness, the last thing you want to do is keep your foot in and try to rev it right out though.

This will not be related to the small amount of oil in the intake.

Maybe, you would need to pull off your dump pipe to check for oil in there to see if the exhaust seal is on the way out.

NO.

Ok, a few things to check:
1. That the base timing is correct.
2. That the vac line to the fpr is not split or leaking.
3. That no intercooler or exhaust piping is hitting the engine or gearbox. Try to imagine how the engine rotates under load and what could hit when it does cause that is when you are having problems.
4. If you can, put it on a dyno for a pull and see if it is mixture related, if it is, then you know where to start looking, if it is not, then it's phantom knock causing the problems.

A mate had weird phantom knock problems which shows similar symptoms to yours and the fix was two new Ralliarrt roll stoppers (front and rear) from Meek. Totally cured the phantom knock problems. The original roll stoppers were shagged and setting the knock sensor off.

Yeh Rob ill be takeing it to get tuned but just need to sort the exhaust manifold leak, when i have the manifold off ill check for oil in the dump aswell.
Meek has checked base timing and thats fine
Ive recently put in the stock fpr back in after having issues with an aftermarket one(hope i didnt damage engine in the couple of weeks the fpr was playing up)
My cooler and piping have no mounting brackets but is pretty steady, could the cooler bumping against the reinforcement etc cause knock?

I generally notice its blowing smoke early hrs of the morning with headlights, it covers the car behind mainly when i move away in 3rd when boost kicks in full. It still pulls aswell but knock goes off and gets very very sluggish
On idle it spits oil on the driveway aswell from the exhaust, i go over the driveway about once a month with degreaser where it starts up
I also back off when the knock goes off, once or twice i ran it a tad more and it keeps increaseing bars, when up a hill and it happens i got no choice but to back off the car seems like its not going to go anywhere
