This is for my t25g on my 180 but i know there are some knowledgable guys here so hopefully someone can help.

Bought a 2nd hand turbo off a guy it came to me with a very small amount of side to side play and no in and out, but there was oil residue in the exh housing, it had come off a blown engine. When I get onto boost its sounds like scraping or rubbing of some sort and im convinced its from the turbo and when i switch the car off i can hear it spinning for about 5-8secs but its not a ballbearing turbo. This is doing my head in cos ive spent the last 3 weeks trying to get this car running.. any help would be muchly appreciated :) cheers

is there any visual signs on either of the wheels rubbing on the housings?

sounds like its stuffed

i cant see any scraping on the housings although i havent got complete line of sight to the whole compressor housing and i havent pulled the dump off since i put it back together today.

gee i really hate flushing cash like that..

Oil starvation problem?
Bought a car off a *******, with same symptoms as you describe and it wasn't getting oil through the thrust bearing.

My mates 180 had the same issue with, basically as boost built it started making a rattling/scrubbing sound. Replaced it with a t28 and it fixed the problem.

Sounds like something is wrong inside the turbo. You are only going to find it by pulling the turbo down to inspect it.
As dougmo says, pull the covers and have a look.
If the t-series is similar to the td- then rebuild kits are under $80 and quite easy to rebuild.
