actually twin plates are generally ALOT lighter than the equivalent single plate, because they have over twice the friction area than a single plate, they dont need a heavy pressure plate.

mine isnt a sprung centre like envyit's which would make a huge difference to its street ability.

remember what people say about single plate button clutches...

they are also meant to be unstreetable..
it all comes down to the driver imo.

rev it slightly, slip the clutch in quickly...
it wont be like a stocky though where u can ride it..

quoted for truth!

i have literally about 3-5mm where i can slip it, but it doesnt want to slip at all much... ;)

and if you drop it... well... yea... expect breakages...

single plate buttons are so streetable its not funny... but i guess its really driver.. if someone cant drive with one they will obviously say that they are bad.. ive driven on nothing but button clutches and my clutches last longer and also support the power better then what most people expect..

twins are the same.. they are less clamping pressure cos there are 2 plates.. so ull get a twin plate that has about 1700lb of pressure x 2 = 3400lb of pressure, but only 1700lb at ur feet!

my twin plate was abit rattily..(solid centres) but it drove fine.. barry has mine at the moment and is inspecting it or something.. its the ones that APC use in their cars... i had one in my vr4 back in the days.

Jon

we tried for AGES to get sprung centres for it, but there just isnt enough room between the plates for a "normally" sprung centre to fit.

so i just went for some solids.

i think most of the "clutch in" rattling is from the intermediate plate, i could see the sprung centres making the "take up" a little smoother and maybe shift downs nicer, but i still recon the intermediate plate would rattle like crazy :(

Which exedy plates are you using in yours to4garret?

I've justed ordered 2 discs from direct clutch.

I noticed that the os giken plates also fit the direct clutch setup..

could be a good combo!

this is the original friction plate i had, ended up spinning the spline out of the centre, NFI how that happened.

here is a photo of one of the exeddy friction plates, i dont know exactly what model number it is sorry, i got a local guy to get them. there was a slight amount of machining that needed to be done to the friction plates hubs to get them to fit.

but all is going well now. the plates were only $140 each.

wow

i purchased jstyles old twin plate.
he too had the centres spun out!
wtf is with that?

is he using the wrong discs for the vr4's?
did you ever get in touch with steve and suss it out?

i have just ordered 2 new plates, now i'm thinking of going your option.....

the conclusion the local clutch guy came up with was the centres are made of the wrong material.

you shouldnt be able to scratch a line in them with a nail. witch i could do with mine.

i never purchased mine from Direct Clutch, so im not sure if they were the stock plates or not.

never mind, the exeddies are holding up VERY well so far :)

Or ever better,
can you get your local to make up another 2 discs for me?

Let me know!

I dont want to use the original type stuff since there has been more than 1 case of failure.

btw, did you flywheel come like that or did you drill those holes in yourself to lighten it?

shit i completely forgot about this thread :?

sorry i cant get any part numbers, but the guy who made mine up is just down the road, i will call in on my way home and see what he rekons :)
