I heard on the radio this afternoon that VIC Roads will be using their fleet of marked cars to target dangerous driving by anyone over the long weekend!!

It's the beginning of the end I tell you!

It's not only knox and western suburbs these days, it's everywhere!

There everywhere and its fu*ked. Can't even drive a stock car responsibly without being fu*ken scared.

ya, i think i'l be geting around in the ute this weekend... that way i'm not tempted to be silly ;)

When I was in QLD last year all I saw cops driving were cars like the Toyota Camry or Prius and at worst it would be an Aurion. Here in Melb they flog V8’s everywhere, even at the drags, lol WTF.

Just wanted to clear up:
Vic Roads cars (everywhere) have been given the same power as police for this long weekend.
I.e. Bookings for offences such as speeding, defects etc.

Not that I condone this sort of behaviour, but how many muzzas would stop for a vic roads car?

I thought they always had these powers, just not choosing to exercise the traffic side of them.
Anyway, Ive always been affraid of VicRoads officers more than Police after talking to one on various occasions and realising just how much they can really do if they dont like you.

Neither do I and I believe not many as they are all fully hectic ulehs.

I have nothing against police doing their jobs, but I hate it when they take advantage of their powers.

Meh its not the police its the stupid government and general population which has gotten so addicted to a dropping road toll. They need to accept that people will ALWAYS find a way to die on the roads. All they seem to track is the number of deaths each year, what they really need to look at is the number of deaths vs. the number of drivers. Our population is growing yet they still expect the road toll to drop.

EDIT: I bet the heads of the police are having their butts ramed over the road toll at the moment as its a PR disaster, now if only we could spin it our way... this could be used as proof that the hoon laws are not working to reduce the road toll!

I thought the Vicroads guys always had the power to do that stuff too? I've seen them belt up Stud Rd past Knox with purple lights in a Commo pulling someone over not so long ago.

VicRoads generally pull people over for EPA related items. Not for speeding.

Next we will see ambulances and fire trucks with radar guns fitted and breath testing stations.

This is alla scam anyhow. Be seen to be doing something, Speed cameras and fines don't save lives, make shit loads of money, but do nothing else. And there is no real investment into our roads or driver education. If they were really serious. Every driver before they were given a license, would do a driving course.. This is revenue raising only, to appease the aging population.

Well said dude, I dont really think that the focus is the revenue that they generate, I would have thought that in the scheme of things the money from fines would represent a very small slice of the pie. They just need to be seen to be doing something and fixed speed cams are the cheapest method of enforcement.

Yeah, exactly right. Whoever will they discriminate against next? I love my car and drive it conservatively. I'd argue that car enthusiasts in general are actually better drivers than the average person.

Give enthusiasts (and hoons) more outlets! Plenty of money in the fines pie. I would appreciate that as a gesture of good faith.

I think people just need to be a bit more patient when they drive. Being a bit late is not a big drama!

I totally agree about the driver training.

There will always be crashes. Driving is the most dangerous thing most people do!

As I always say, this is the Brumby/Bracks government's doing. Hmmm, we need a Motorists of Victoria party.

I thought i'd jump in and just clarify that I dont condone dangerous/stupid driving whatsoever (first post was worded a bit bad). I'm just not that keen on them extending their powers who harass innocent people with a passion for cars.

The amount of inefficient and inconsiderate people with no awareness on the roads out there is alarming. That's who they should be targeting. They are the ones who kill, just as much as drunks and dickhead hoons in their clapped out pieces of shit.

Then there's the easy targets- modified vehicle enthusiasts. Easy to fill the monthly quota, aint it.

Stay safe over the long weekend guys....

here here...

there isnt a day that goes by that i dont shake my head in amazement at something that someone has done on the roads...

had a chick come out in front of me at a round about from my left the other day, i would have hit her fair in the drivers door and probably killed her if i didnt double check to the left..

Speed cameras are there to show they are "Trying" to do something, But in now way do they actually save lives.. They raise funds.

The federal budget i believe included a figure from infringement notices/fines. How can they state that "This year we will bring in $2 Billion from traffic infringements". So to me, its a source of revenue.

They pull the wool over peoples eyes with a cloud of smokey grey shit and people (in general) get brain washed by the bullshit.

Defective vehicle notices should be targetted at exactly that, defective vehicle which is "unsafe" to drive. Bald tires, non functioning lights and turn signals and cars blowing smoke screens. Not cars that look nice and must be driven by a hoon :)..

And the term Hoon is also bullshit. Hoon is not even a word in the dictionary (that i can see). It is slang made up in the Australian english language. Look it up. Its slang for Hooligan, Lout etc so the "Hoon" law is bullshit. The way it is used is to stereo type people.

As a defensive and advanced driver trainer i have to dissagree with previous statements that " enthusiasts are generally better drivers " most THINK they are but very few are BUT how many actually undertake further training to improve their skills?????
Go to any Powercruise and see heaps of enthusiasts with absolutely no clue about how to sit in the correct position and the apallingly poor steering wheel technique who are more concerned about looking cool ,straight arm/arms one hand at 12 and the other anywhere else than on the wheel
For the record the correct steering position is hands at 9&3 arms bent so they cannot be straightened and locked on in the event of a crash, and the seat in an upright position

+1:thumbsup:

Why don't they use all of this so called safety camera revenue to fix the trillion or so potholes and shitty road surfaces throughout the Melbourne Metro area? Ive noticed the road surface in general has been getting much worse over the past 5 years.

I'm not sure if it can still be done but years ago my brother-in-law received a cracked rim when he hit a pot hole in the out skirts of Werribee South. He managed to lodge a complaint of some kind with the council and they had to buy him a brand new rim.......
