As a defensive and advanced driver trainer i have to dissagree with previous statements that " enthusiasts are generally better drivers " most THINK they are but very few are BUT how many actually undertake further training to improve their skills?????
Go to any Powercruise and see heaps of enthusiasts with absolutely no clue about how to sit in the correct position and the apallingly poor steering wheel technique who are more concerned about looking cool ,straight arm/arms one hand at 12 and the other anywhere else than on the wheel
For the record the correct steering position is hands at 9&3 arms bent so they cannot be straightened and locked on in the event of a crash, and the seat in an upright position

That was me. Maybe I should clarify. I can only speak for myself but I'm a pretty conservative driver, I drive in a manner which is respectful and communicative to other drivers (long gap in front, consistent and smooth braking). I also care about my car (I'd argue I care a lot more than "regular" drivers) because I've put a lot of my own effort into it. Most of the other GSR/EVO drivers I've seen on the roads are pretty conservative as well. Safer than "regular" drivers who don't give a shit about their cars or anyone else's I think.

yeah, simply because we have put considerable amount of money and effort on it, we wouldnt even want a scratch on it. not like regular drivers, who have the thinking of "ahh well it's just a car, if i hit something, we can fix it later"

Mate I wasn't having a shot at you but just posting my opinion after many years of observation
Some people think that an oldie like me is living dangerously when I say I hit???220 k's on the track But i always say that the most dangerous thing I did that day was to drive to and from the track because when on the track you will have 100 pc concentration on driving and everybody is traveling in the same direction whereas motorists on the road are thinking about everything other than driving so is it any wonder why there are so many crashes??

agreed about the driving home bit, i'd much rather spend my days driving around a track as opposed to dodging idiots coming the other way because they decided the double lines mean shit and i'l pass over them anyway (something i have had happen twice now on country roads at 100 kph, now that puckers your bung hole, lucky there was a nice large verge and there was enuf room for people to get out of the way)

i think the main problem is impatience, people take stupid risks to get places in a hurry, but in reality with all those risks they might make up 1 or 2 mins in a half hour drive, woofrickinghoo.. really worth the risk of fines etc etc

All good mate I didn't take it as a shot at me
I find driving to work pretty hairy at times, so many people do such random things and I get sent an EPA letter and regularly get called a hoon because I own a turbocharged car :fuuuuu:

Its pritty simple dont speed on the roads and soon we will be able to travel at 140 i hope it happens anyway. there are plenty of dirt tracks and snow tracks to go on or go to a race track if u have the need to go fast far out. i simply cant afford to lose my licence coz of childish acts on the roads and im sure most everyone else here is the same point as me.
I have never had a single speeding fine. the roads are something u can live with or there is always the train and bus. simple way to look at it roads in melbourne are already worse then any race track with people not knowing road rules and what side to drive on not naming any cops with this problem... and drunken drivers as well. please do the right thing on the roads a vr4 or evo to me is a peace of art work no need to destroy it

I figured this is what this thread was already saying... just because our cars are capable of speed it doesn't make us hoons. I am personally sick of being booked over nothing. I've been done twice while filling up with fuel and one at a breatho stop... all three times when I started getting irate, I was told by the cop that 'If you don't want this sort of attention, don't drive this kind of car'. One of the lovely upstanding members of the force then referred to the defect notice as a badge of honour, and when I asked him what that was supposed to mean, he told me that he knows of how us 'street racers' treat our defect notices, like they are trophies! When My car is back on the road after 2 years, from yet another defect notice, the first modification I'm doing to it is a big sticker on the back with 'ENTHUSIEST, NOT HOON'
