Vin CE9A decode help

If you really want to check the legitimacy of an EVO from Japan's specs, then type the chassis number into Mitsubishi ASA.
It will tell you the colour, options it came with etc.
Here, just like this I done for you using an EVO 2/3 CE9A Chassis number and then you put in the 7 digit code afterwards...

Here's an example to practice with.
A White RS EVO 3. Chassis number CE9A-0107147. Personal Yellow Plate import onto Australia. But is it the real deal??? Yes it is!!
Because when you type in the chassis numbers into Mitsubishi ASA in the top left hand corner and press enter, it recognised the number and gives the description as a genuine RS EVO 2/3 and gives you the paint code, interior codes, production period etc.
You can also, if you wanted to find out if it came factory LSD or not, is go to the drivetrain section and choose on the front diff.
If it comes up with the part number and info for open diff, then its open.
If it comes up with *NO DATA* for front LSD, then it didn't have it fitted.
Now... how do we know if it is an EVO 2 or an EVO 3???
Well EVO 2 had chassis number start with CE9A-000...................... and EVO 3 had chassis number CE9A-010.
So we can see that it is an EVO 3.
That ends today's lesson :)

Those with keener eyes may ask more questions like:
* See where the aerial is on the White EVO 3 RS? On the driver's side A-pillar like our Aussie GSR Lancers have - not on the rear quarter panel like GSR EVO's have.
* Where is the rear windscreen wiper? Check ASA to find out. = **NO DATA ** meaning it didn't come with one.
* Why is there a power window setup in this RS Evo? Check ASA to find out. = It comes up with ** NO DATA ** for the power windows door trim pockets, handles and motorised window regulators which means that it didn't come with power windows from the factory. It did however come up with part numbers for the normal wind up window system door handles, window regulators etc. This means that this RS EVO III has had its door looms and door trims changed from the normal bland and winding up/down window system to the interior door trims and power window setup out of a GSR EVO model.
* Why does it have Climate Control? Check ASA to find out. = It came optioned with airconditioning, yes... but the normal aiconditioning system with turn knobs and wires to open and close vents, not the motorised and digital screen climate control system. Therefore the climate control was added to the car at a later date by somebody.
* Any others???

Always go by the number stamped on the firewall above the brake booster.
The JMFCC numbers on the silver compliance plate and on top of the strut towers are Australian compliance numbers. They do not tell you exactly what the car is as many may have been brought into the country on the dodgey or had cut and shut jobs done to them.
 
that's why i was saying no evo should have silver Australian compliance plates on them if they do the compliance plate IS NOT FOR THE EVO! and belongs to another car.
 
In Victoria they have been cracking down on the CD,CE, CN or CP9A on the firewall with a aus vin next to it, They also have done a recall on all the 6TREP cars aswell to basically make sure they are ok for australian roads , but only if it has to be re registed , depends on how they do it , but usually they make us do a VIV ( WOVR ) in Vic, which is a engineers report

why they caught on was lots of evo 4s were race rally cars only , which ended up with CJ2A ( lancer coupe by the way not sedan even ) and CK2A vins , and new owners of these cars wanted to insure the car as a evo 4 , the insurance companies started asking questions to vic roads and local dealers to identify cars

here is a vins for evo 1 2 3

CD9A - 0000001 first built evo I , ( build date 11/1993 ) ( white W83 )
CD9A - 0007899 was the last built evo I (build date 04/1993 ) ( its a white GSR , SNGF )

CE9A-0000001 should be the first evo II , ( build date 02/1994 ) ( its a unknow color GSR , SNGF )( paint code ZZZ )
CE9A-0006582 should be the last evo II , ( build date 03/1994 ) ( its a Black GSR, SNGF )

CE9A-0100001 should be the first evo III , ( build date 08/1994 ) ( its a white RS , SNDF )( paint code ZZZ )
CE9A-0110488 should be the last evo III, ( build date 08/1995 ) ( its a white RS, SNDF ) ( with W83L paint code )

In my example above, I added a "THOSE WITH KEENER EYES" part at the bottom to get you thinking and looking, as all is not what it seems.
 
Rear fog lights. Can't see if there is a switch or not.
Don't think the RS's came with the Momo steering wheel?
Seats don't look like RS seats.

Apart from the color coding that's been mentioned, mirrors could be electric folding type not manual and chances are it has the GSR console too but would need better interior pictures to pick up on other things. The cluster looks like its an ebay EL type too.
