vr4 and evo blocks..which is better?

hey guys, i did a quick search and didnt find anything but which 4g63 block is better? strength, pros and cons of each block? ive heard the vr4 is a better base for big power compared to the evo. true?
also didnt know which area to put it in, so i just put it in discussion.

i think the blocks are totally the same sleeve wise..

vr4 block is the better base to modify,more reliable than the evo,better factory rods to name a few reasons

well its obvious vr4 is better cos its first made.. evo was just a by product just like unleaded to oil..
it will always be useful but never really worthwhile.

Are we talking about just the block (ie: with the intention of filling it with aftermarket parts) or the complete short engine?

There's not going to be a huge amount of strength difference between the two bare blocks (DOCILE uses an evo block, makes more than 1042hp @ wheels), however, the evo block uses a 1 piece girdle.

Of course it's easier to put an evo engine into an evo/gsr and a vr4 engine into a vr4 than vice-versa, but if your going all out that shouldn't stop you.

I think they're talking about short blocks.

They're both good for 11 seconds stock. Hell, with the right setup and a light car, you could probably pull a 10 on a stock short block. I know that trigger did a 10 on a TD05- so anything is possible!

EVO's do have girdles, but you can also get girdles for 6-bolt from Kiggly Racing. Bazeng and ib6ub9 are using them, and I have one also.

ah in that case, i'd say the condition of the engine you get is MUCH more important than WHICH engine you get.

because they are older a vr4 engine has probably done more kms and had a harder life - though not always.

You could freshen it up with new rings/bearings etc, but if your going to pull it all apart you might as well fit some JE's and Eagle rods (which can be had cheap enough from the states that it'd almost be silly not too).

true, it shouldnt really matter which block you will use, it depends on how much attention you pay when rebuilding. I recently had a vr4 block honed, chemically crack tested and then all the rotating engine parts weighed and balanced. It depends on what you want to do...

The RVR is based on Evo from what I am told ... So 7 Bolt ... The Eclipse engine from the states is also a 7 Bolter ....

So yeah, VR4 being the 6 bolt ...

I always thought a torque plate was something you bolt onto the bottom end and torque to spec while honing the bores so that the block is honed in the same position it will be in when everything else is torqued up.
Im a bit of noob as well could someone else explain to?

Thats pretty much about it. Its for perfect bores.

a torque plate is used to simulate a head being bolted onto the block (as the block would usually deform when torqued up to spec).

So round bores without head = oval bores with head.
A torque plate fixes this problem

wouldnt it be more required for reboring?
