hey i got some VR4 'Monte carlo' cams comin to put inot my 4G61t, need to know if they should be lined up the same as the stock cams, or should they be done differently???

i am pretty sure they are the same as EVO 3 cams...

also is there any advantage to advancing/retarding either cam a tooth or too?? for more power??

Cheers

Matt

disadvantage, bent valves, i got my timing 1 tooth out when i did my head and now i am replacing 10 valves

shit..
when was this...
and which cam was out?

exhaust or intake..

did you not turn it over by hand first?

a while back on MMC there was a discussion and various cams were measured - can't get on mmc to check but iirc they are indeed the same (vr4, evo0, monte carlo, evo3)

i did turn it over by hand and there was no noises, i think exhaust was out, this was about a month ago, which is why the car is still off the road, well one of the reasons

got on mmc - what I found is below:

This is something I was wondering for years before discovering this, backed up in real life and by the information provided by CAPS.

All E39A VR4's have the SAME cams as what are in the Evo 2/3(CE9A).
Ex:MD128973
In:MD128974 alt MD337754

Evo 1(CD9A) Has the same cams as the RVR SSG(N23WG) And Chariot GT(N43W)
Ex:MD193148
In:MD193147 alt MD337759

It's my theory that they re-did the cams in the Evo 1 to make up for the extra lag of the 16g over the 14b, but decided the top end gains of the e39a shafts were better anyway, so went back to them with the E2/3.

I have measured a 0.5mm difference in lobe height between Evo 2 and Evo 1 cams which when multiplied by the rocker ratio of 1.75:1, gives the Evo 2 cams almost 0.9mm more valve lift than the Evo 1 items.

hmmm on 4g61t.com they reckon u should be runnin a 61t inlet on TDC and a vr4 exhaust cam retarded one tooth for more power results...

u shouldnt have bent valves bein one tooth out... two maybe but unlikely... bit unlucky there dude...

i guess im gonna run them both at TDC until i get adjustable cam gears... then start fine tuning....

unless someone is already runni this setup and can confirm the setup and results... wonder how much more power/torque it will bring...
