hey guys

just chucked it on the weigh bridge for fur
n/a
with 3 seats (2 drivers and 1 passenger, 2 sparco and 1 leather amg)
tools and myself

still need to turbo to go on / exhaust piping (new ones) / intercooler / intercooler piping and intake piping plus new radiator and heat exchanger

i dont think it'll be 1200kg's...
lol

damn vr4's are heavy

I could of told you that barry... unless its an RS/EVO VR4 there is no way in hell you can get it down that low without removing more things.

Jon

bastard evo drivers!!!

the luxury and the speed!!

lol

jamie, i got it done at a public weight bridge, right next door to pick a part in bayswater / montrose area...

anybody up for a weightbridge cruise?? lol
its free... just drive one, look at the screen, drive off!

looks like i gotta find myself some manual doors and c/f parts...

i was glad it wasn't in the 1400's though =) like your vr4 jonny boy !!

but after the turbo and all, it most likely will be...

does it still have the intrusion bars in the doors and stuff?
what else can you take out to make it lighter?

yeah jack used to take the side intrusion bars out of the doors in his rally car

he did have a roll cage though

you need speed holes barry!

the only other weight reductions i'd do are:

- manual windows
- maybe remove carpet and paint the inside (maybe not, too much work)
- cf bonnet / bootlid
- maybe even lock the rear windows up (that lexun or whatever its called..)

i've still got my intrusion bars, not worth taking out, unless i get a cage =)

everything else has been done (except for the dash removal, but i want to keep my dash)

Dre:
its too late to go back
already got the 4bolt and all the suspension bushes (everywhere!!), and also spent to much on the body also...

but maybe in the future hey =)
lets see how the vr4 runs first

I believe Lexan barely makes a difference Baz.. especially for the inconvenience of the scratches. Although removing the window winding mechanism is meant to save a bit.

Get lighter wheels, CF/Fibreglass bonnet/bootlid, front guards  , remove sound deadening (although i think you already have) but keep the carpet. If you're keen to muck around with fibreglass some more, I've seen some people make fibreglass (or CF) dashboards  :D . But realistically thats a shitload of work. You're probably better off trying to get more power out of the thing..

he also changed his rear bootlid arms to custom aluminuim ones. they are big barsards and quite heavy. everyone run out to ur vr4s and look :p . asi want to do hillclimb there are a couple of plans that i want to do to my car to make it lighter

Removal of the aircon system.
Removal of the Boot and fuel release.
Removal of the under carpet sound deadening.
Removal of the rear seating heating ducting.
Removal of the vent in boot.
Removal of the second horn.
Removal of the rear seats with aluminuim firewall.
sass fiberglass seats
gutted doors with perspex windows and rear window perspex (with heater stipes still in place :) )
magnisium wheels
aluminuim fuel cell in boot (will also add more ground clearance)
swiss cheese under dash
removal of air condencer
RS front bar
RS bonnet
aircon controls removed changed to basic switches
4ws removed
lightweight zorst
removal of stereo mabye?
helium in tyres jk

anyways should save a bit of weight wonder how much it would save then again with the amount of work required a borg looks like a better option

skuz

i weighed the amg for fun

-17's
-1 x 4 ch amp
-1 x 2 ch amp
-1 x 12" sub + box
-custom boot floor

drum rol................................... 1340kg's..
with driver, and fuel on Empty

was surprised!.. thought it would have been lighter

i guess thoes rumours of vr4's getting down to 1200kg's with basic stripping was bs... lol
more like 1400 with basic weight reductions..

i guess ill have to fight in the heavy weight class =)

I'd be getting a second and third weighbridge result before I'd be dismissing anyone elses claims baz!!

I know who your talking about (nick- vr4rs) he said his VR4 RS weighed 1230kg. This was done on airline scales measuring weight of cargo for placement on the plane, so its critical that those scales are accurate.

the import shipping papers for my '88 jspec said 1350kg, and that was with 2 spare rims in the boot.

Im pretty sure everything that is loaded onto a ship is weighed pretty accurately as well.

So i reckon it would be possible to get this into the 1200's

EVO VR4s and RS ones are made of .5mm metal but the others are made of 1mm so thats a huge saving in the shell alone.

Aus and US Spec VR4's are the heaviest ones ever built!!! When i weighed my factory aus spec it was like 1450kg without driver!!!

I hate to say it baz but you should of built something alot lighter!!!

Look at it like this.. my evo lancer...

12.6 @ 106mph on 16psi with problems in the motor

- stock big 16g
- cams
- chip

Thats on a factory 1260kg (3000lb with driver) car!
