hey peoples just a quick question....what gearboxes that you guys know of can fit onto the galant VR-4 4G63 engine????

if possible also could you add in wether the boxes are cable or hydraulic clutch acutation!!??

thanks for any help you can give me.....!!

i believe these bolt up:

- hyundai sonata
- cordia ??
- vr4's
- evo's
- rvr??

but ratio's differ in all...
also fwd / awd.. depends what you want.

cordia boxes don't bolt up.

4g63 and 4g64 boxes all bolt up as all the bottom ends are more or less the same for bolt holes... flywheel might need some mods tho.

The "galant vr4 engine" can also take most boxes from e1/2/3 but i don't think they'll work in a vr4 shell... for driveshafts etc.

On the flip side, evo boxes have front lsds sometimes.

yeah im lookin 4 a front wheeldrive gearbox for my VR-4 Nimbus because the nimbus one doesnt bolt around the flywheel!??

the bell housing is too small but if there is such a thing as a cable clutch fwd gearbox that fits the galant box i will be very happy to hear of it!

thanks 4 yer help so far guys!

Ive got a vr4 4G63 in my cordia mated to my stock cordia box. It works that way, but im not sure about the cordia box going the other way into a nimbus? They are also FWD boxes ie no transfer case, but they are smaller than the vr4 box?

Cordia boxes are also cheap as chips.

Feel free to shoot me down

Cheers,
Nick

Put a FWD 1.8 DOHC Hyundai Lantra flywheel onto your VR4 engine because it has a 6 bolt configuration. Then bolt on the VR4 clutch and pressure plate onto the Lantra flywheel and it should then fit inside your bellhousing and you can keep your current gearbox. Our coupe boys do this when mating a VR4 engine onto their smaller (shallower) CC Lancer FWD bellhousings :D . Using the VR4 clutch and pressure plate ensures all the bite you need to handle the engine  If you went alternative flywheels/gearboxes your combination will most definitely result in a smaller clutchface surface area

Is your Nimbus hydraulic or cable setup ?

I might be wrong, but i think the auto VR4 engine has a different bolt pattern and bolts up to the cordia box. Narrow or Wide block im not sure.

cordia boxes do bolt up Enteran. As everyone who drives a VR4'd cordia will tell you. You just need to use a cordia flywheel/ clutch.

Lancer

I just put a 4G93 1.8L N/A FWD gearbox on mine but you will need a cordia turbo flywheel to fit in the bellhousing...

clutch is twin plate!!!

but you see guys!!

i got a galant VR-4 front cut with a twin plate clutch and lightened flywheel set up on it!!!!

i really really want to keep it as it is a OS Giken item from japan and its brand new!!!

if you could reccomend me to do anything to keep this clutch setup it will be appreciated

thanks guys!

OK, shoulda said all that in the first place instead of just asking what boxes fit what hahaha  :p If you really want to keep it all then you just put both the engine and box into your Nimbus. Then to convert the 4WD gearbox to FWD, you need to get the viscous coupling welded or use a viscous coupling eliminator (better option). I've been told Meek http://www.meek.com.au/pages/products.html stock them. If not, give these guys a look into: http://www.teamrip.com/fwd.html . Rob

My bad. I was of the (previous) thought that they had different bolt pattern on the housing.

Get the teamrip one if you get anything.

The quality of their work is impeccable.

Who the hell knows where chris (meek) sourced his parts... and he overcharges :D

i think in that case, hyundai box would work..

but with the twin plate, u'll probably blow the box up!!!

lol ill deffinatelt blow the nimbus one wid da twin plater!

i might go with the actual galant vr4 box and just use it as fwd

then i will keep the rear transfer case for an awd conversion.....lol i wish!!!
