Help Support 4GTuner:

LOL excuse me mr... i do some of the hard stuff myself..

And i do recall was even the 1 who wired it all up in Robs car  :p

I'm tryin to find a way to hoom it up through a switch but its got my brain stuffed... im gonna use a on/on switch simuliar to the power windows switch but i just cant get it right coz all 4 of the wires comin from the black box have a positive current running through them :?

'wired it all up?' pfffft... I was busy wiring up much more complicated things other than that simple 2 wire job you were doing little bro. Even then I still had to double check that you didnt stuff it up bahahahaha  :p TIC

LOL b@stard...

Comin from the person who gets my help wiring up his under dash loom ;)

Enough said... it must run in the family lol

ENGINR: How much did you end up paying (if you dont mind me asking) to have it installed? Who did it?

they may be too long in the body for an EVO/GSR - the old magnaflow one i had on my car was a 5 x 8" oval and the bend required in the exhaust pipe after the rear wheel wasn't pretty ...

With a 6x10" oval this bend would have to be even more sudden (if you want the muffler mounted straight)

Hey Dre,

I got mine through a bloke named Stan, a contact of DOUGMO's (George). I can't remember what the name of his business is, but he's near Imlachs. He ordered it and installed it for me. I was really impressed, he took his time about locating it, ensuring that it wasn't too close to the bumper, was aligned properly and then welded it up.

Doh!... will have to measure my current one up.

Measured my currnt one up and its 14 inches! So I think I might try out the oval ones as it will be an improvement on what I have currently.

A bit of left field and completely unnecesary thinking...

Wiring up the varex to some sort of RPM signal... where basically as RPM increases, the butterfly opens... one for the tech nerds but i still think that it would be beneficial as well as being cool

I guess the only problem that i see here is that the stepper motor inside the varex may not be cut out for the constant changing of the butterfly possition, but then again it may be up to the task...

some food for thort...

That looks far better than the old cannons.

At a guess, my muffler is 6x10 - yeah, there's a bit of a bend in the exhaust to get it to fit up, but that hasn't stopped the car from making power.

Anyone used one of these for an extended period of time yet?

good idea mate but the motors are fairly slow so you would run the risk of a large restriction when it was not opening up fast enough

Do most of you just run a resonator and rear muffler? Is there any room to squeeze another muffler b/w the two? Mine is still too loud and it pisses me off. I put in a dodgy restrictor in the arse of it, but don't want that there for long, plus it means I and not giving it any stick.

I've been thinking about just getting one of these Varex mufflers.

they make those motors seem like they act very fast on the VE GTS demo (on their website), however i thort that that would be the case...

It would kind of defeat the purpose of keeping the exhaust quiet if it slowly opened up according to rpm wouldnt it? :p . When the butterfly is closed you can drive around in stealth mode like a granny without attracting attention from the enformement agencies or from your neighbours. Then when you are in the clear open it up and say Ah

These operate off a key pad remote like that you use to lock and unlock your car etc? I just want to kno if it would be possible to have a hard wired switch?

Yes it is possible to hardwire them. I have spoken with one of the electrical engineers here at work and he told me that you can get a rocker switch from JayCar (or Dick Smith or wherever!) and hardwire the muffler and power into it. From looking at mine it seems they use a power window motor to operate the valve.

I've got one of the cannon style ones on my car and it was one of the best things I did. As Rob said - you can drive around like a granny when you're not wanting to draw attention, then when you want to open it up - they sound awesome and flow heaps.

Yeah cool, I was just woried that it you didnt use the circuitry it may not stop at the end of its travel and burn out the motor etc. I was reluctant to fit the cannon but as it was cheap I did it, I may well change to the twin tip oval in the coming months...

i've got a hot dog resonator just after my cat, than the fujitsubo muffler at the end. It's fairly quiet when you are cruising, i noticed the other day when i drove out to British Columbia coming down the mountain that at 3-4,000 rpms while off the throttle, it was kinda loud in the cabin, more like a V8 roar.

here it is

The cannons are cheaper than the dual tips from the prices I can find, in the order of about $100. Also I am not sure about the duals, I think the stepper motor only closes one of the pipes(check the vids).
