lots of you are going to have a cry at me, but frankly I don't care.
I'm basically in debt with my VR4, we are moving to London next year for a couple of years. My plan is to go over debt free and start again once I come back to Oz, hopefully with some UK pounds in my account. I'm not paying loan repayments for a car I'm not enjoying and I'm not storing it anywhere so I can pay the repayments and the storage costs.

I have 2 options
1. Sell the car, the market is bad, I will end up having to sell it cheap at 10k just before I go purely to get rid of it, I will lose more than 8k.

2. Part the car out. There is nothing at all wrong with it, infact its one of the cleanest, modified Jap specs I have seen and it drives perfectly. Basically it is worth more in parts, well I think so anyways.

Obviously it would suck to part it out, but I need to lose the least money as possible. I would only part it out if I could sell pretty much everything of it and send the rest to the scrap yard.

My question to you fellow guys that love their cars is....What would you do?

It's better selling the car as it is. less hassle.
Selling the car in parts is alot of hassle, and you will run out of time.

Either way, you will loose money.

I parted out my old galant, returned it back to almost stock then sold it.

If you have the time and energy to do it yourself, i'm sure you will end up better off. Like what manny said though, there's alot of hassle- you have to ask yourself if its worth the extra cash, or not....

Keep it :D haha, nah tough choice, Maybe just sell some the most expensive parts that you can afford to take off... and go from there??

how much time you got jon?

Parting it'd probably get you the most money. My red cordia has a shitload of mods, and i can't sell it for shit whole.... in parts though, people pay for the individual shit they need. - that said, i'm tryina sell it cheap purely because i haven't got the time or space to part it out...

Shit sucks that you gotta do it, but if that's ur options, tis life. Good luck with it.

Jonson, you poor man. :(

I think it would probably be best to sell it whole.
Then you don't have to worry about pulling it apart (which will probably upset you in the process) and then you don't have to wait for every last bit to be sold to get your money back.
Selling the car as is, one lump sum and you're done.
Also, I dunno what you've got in the car, but you'd have to have some pretty good gear to fetch that sort of money hey.

Good luck with it champ. :)

It's definately not the time to sell anything at the moment and not incur substancial losses and I understand that you're caught between a rock and a hard place - to what extent have you tried to sell it mate? Have you tried all avenues - carsales.com and the like? I would have thought that it would be more difficult trying to sell a Mitsi (whole car) on a Mitsi forum when most forum members already own one...?

Do you think that it might be a bit of a risk trying to part it out on a thin timeline? What happens if you don't recoup as much money in the time frame compared to what you may receive for if you were just to let it go? I would hate to see you left with a car that's too valuable for the wreckers.

Anyhoo, it would be sad to see a car as immaculate as yours stripped for parts - it's becoming far too common these days, especially for older cars...

Yeah well thats exactly right, between a rock and a hard place.
Basically has coilovers, rims, exhaust, forged rebuild, Wolf 3d, near new MHI 16g, GT pumps mani, Walbro, 650's, E6 cooler and nice piping, straight as panels near immac interior, Momo bits inside, autometer gauges, full stereo obviously i'm missing some things on the list but that gives you an idea.

I would have roughly 6 months to get rid of the parts, I'm a mechanic with all the tools/knowledge so it doesn't bother me stripping it really. I could probably move it on car sales but then some lil p plater wanker will rape it, in truth I would rather part it out and 'help' out the Mitsu community than to hear of it getting stacked/raped by some wanker on his P 1's.

I think you'd get money for it in parts... should be a grand in coilovers, least 800 for 17's, about 1k for wolf, turbo wont be easy to sell with the copies on the market, a few grand for the motor... you get the idea... :p shit adds up

Then you gotta spend some cash on another motor, turbo etc to get it running to sell. You can sell it as a rolling body cos you will get sweet fuck all for it.....

Mate, I suggest that you put yourself first rather than worry about the possibilities of something that may never happen. You said that the $$$ was your prime concern - if not, keep the damn thing! :) You could help the Mitsi community out to an extent but chances are, you're going to end up doing your balls....

why dont u list all the parts and get expressions of interest EOI from this forum and the others and see if anyone is keen in your modified parts.

then get the stock parts fit em and sell the car as stock
, like clutz said, because if you scrap it that would be a shame and youll loose money - also if u sell your parts i can get some parts cheap :)

I agree with this man. He speaks sense. :)

well I'd keep the car but that's me (my cars are like children to me).
I would properly look into taking it with me!!
but that's just what I'd do.
the other thing is what are you going to drive when you get back?, are you going to bye a new car which would set you back more thin you owe on this one?

I'll put it up on Carsales/trading post and see who is keen for it.
Whats a good price? 12.5k? I know no one already with a VR4 would pay that but hey.

The hard part is, it's worth 12.5k modded, but who will pay it? It's still a VR4, and there are other VR4's for 6k. People are short-sighted like that. In my opinion, following clutz's example would net the greatest return. I'm sure the community would be happy to help with trades for stock parts, and be happier to keep a VR4 on the road.

+1. Especially at the moment more than ever, everyone wants something for nothing..
