Hey guys,

My brother bought some brand new rims from a "reputable" dealer and upon further inspection (when he got the car home) I noticed that two of the wheels had no balance weights and the others seemed as if they were about to come off.
He took it to another tyre place and they couldn't balance the wheel properly and pointed out that the studs had been bent and needed to be replaced aswell as that they had used wheel spacers without telling him.

When he called up about it, they practically told him to get nicked and that he must've hit a big pothole and it wasn't their problem, when enquired about the legality of the spacers, the reply was quote, "you won't get busted for it man".

Not the clearest photo but check out how many weights had to be used to try and correct it..
how is this possible?

Just a tip, Do not buy tyres from a place in TEMPE !!!

Woah, I take it that they were second hand wheels??

Thats the bad thing about it, you dont know whats happened to them in the past!!

I'd say take it back and have them strip the tyre off and balance the wheel by itself to find out whether its the wheel or the tyre causing the need for excessive weights.

I have always asked for my wheels to be spun up by themselves (after removing any weights) and without tyres on them first but with a valve stem in them. One, this tells you how good the wheels are to start with (any weight over 20 grams fro a new wheel is too much so try another wheel) and two, this tells you where the lightest spot of the wheel is.

With most decent tyres, they usually have a yellow dot on the sidewall. this is usually marks the heaviest spot of the tyre and should be lined up with the either the valve (but rarely is) or even better, the light spot on the wheel. This way, you use the minimum weight possible.

Its hard to find good tyre fitters these days.

wow i balance wheels at my work all the time... n **** from what i'm seeing those rims r ******.... put your worse ones to the rear!!! i get a 4 wheel balance every 10,000kms n rotate if needed... but wow i'd be pissed off is i was u man...

brand new rims n tyres should be only like 10-30grams off MAX!!!! sometimes they can blance up perfect with no weights cause they r brand new....
