hey guys, after doing the GTO front brake conversion, ive discovered that i need a different offset rim. i ran 17x7 with a 20mm spacer and that had a 5mm clearance but since speaking with the engineer, he would like me to get some different rims to pass his inspection. even if it means going to 18s. ive read heaps on offset and its just confused me heaps more now.
the GTO's have a 46+ offset on the standard 17x8.5 inch rim but obviously if i go 18s, the offset changes again?
anyone able to shed some light on this?
cheers

wheel diameter doesn't affect offset - only width does.

also, a certain offset doesn't guarantee it'll clear the calipers, you need the right spoke design.

Note how the spokes in this diagram curve out from the hub (much like the wheels on nissan GTS-t skylines) which are 6.5" wide with a +40 offset (iirc)

are you 4-stud still, or 5-stud? Koya Drifttk's are available in 4 stud in 7,8 and 9" widths all of which should clear your calipers.

if your 5-stud the choice of wheels is much wider (factory evo5< wheels for example).

thanks for the info mate
im in the process of a 5 stud conversion now which looks to have made it easier for rim choices. also i dont think the CC shape can go past 8 inchs in width or else it hits the suspension and/or the trailing arms.
anyone in melb got a spare evo rim that i could try on? :D

the rims im looking to get

plus 40 offset. looks to fit?

hey mate how much time, effort and money did it take to do your upgrade?
i'm after a new setup for my gsr and just want to know what it takes.
Thanks Grant.

hey mate
it took a day to install everything.
just chase some GTO calipers, get some brackets made up. GTO rotors redrill to your cars stud pattern if its not 5x114.3 and some new pads and put it all together. the brake lines can be reused and its recommended to go an evo brake booster but the stock GSR one can be used.
if you cant find the GTO calipers, look at the R33 skyline, as they look awfully similar and also made by Sumitomo. just measure the distance of where the calipers bolt on to the hub to make sure they fit.
worth the time and effort imo.
